11 great ways to Exfoliate Away Summer’s Skincare Saboteurs
Summer is going to end sooner than you might think. The air might still be muggy, the weather, warm, but Fall is right around the corner. This is a good time to tackle the unwanted side effects of hot, sunny days.
What side effects, you may be wondering?
Saltwater, chlorine from the pool, sun (even if you were diligent with your sunscreen), perspiration, sunscreen buildup and a lot of time spent outdoors may leave your skin with an uneven tone, bumpy texture, and hyperpigmentation.
As the rosy glow of July and August begins to wear off, these less-than-attractive features may begin to appear.
Slay Skin Saboteurs!
What To Do?!
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
Type “Exfoliate” or “Exfoliating” or “Exfoliation” into our search box and you’ll find dozens and dozens of products that slough off dead, dry skin cells to reveal a more radiant and healthy skin. Once you have exfoliated your skin you must protect the newly-revealed skin with a good sunblock.
Exfoliate often, but also do it wisely and carefully. In the DIY department, you can do a lot to gently exfoliate. August is a good time to start.
Caution! Love Me Tender:
A word of caution here: some exfoliating products are overly aggressive, such as those with rough, crushed apricot pits or crushed walnut shells. These can abrade your skin, scratching the surface and leave you looking red and raw.
Rather, opt for products that respect your skin with the care it deserves. Read the ingredient panel carefully.
There are so many exfoliating products on the market and advicesisters.com has reviewed so many! Check out our search box. However, some of our favorites include:

Hands & Lips:
Lips need regular, gentle exfoliating as well. One of our favorite products is the Sara Happ Lip Scrub (we included the tube version in our 2018 holiday gift guide) with delicious flavors such as confetti cake. It’s a gentle but thorough approach to lip exfoliation that is so much fun to use you’ll be motivated to use it often.
To use the three-step exfoliating and hydrating treatment you get the May Kay Satin Hand Softener: 2.1 oz. (helps seal in moisture and gets hands ready for the hand scrub).; Hand Scrub ; and Hand Cream: 3 oz. (with Shea butter). The hydration lasts even if you wash your hands a couple of times.
I keep the exfoliating set on my kitchen counter to remind me to scrub away the dead dry skin. It’s effective, fun to use, and really makes a difference when used regularly!
