If there’s anything that excites me more than new products, I can’t think of it. So when I discovered Dermaquest Skin Care at a Red Light Public Relations editor’s preview, I was excited! I’m not drying to sound overly dramatic, but when I started to check out Dermaquest’s products, they seemed very promising.
DermaQuest Skin Therapy is a clinical skin care company created by a master chemist, Sam Dhatt, using cutting edge Peptide and Plant Stem Cell technologies. The philosophy of the brand is that: “maximum results are achieved by building the strength of the skin to better tolerate more advanced treatment products. Whether you are looking to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, perk up tired eyes, lighten dark spots and pigmentation or address acne and texture issues, DermaQuest’s products are there to help.”
In the past and coming weeks, The Advice Sisters have focused a lot of skincare, and especially high end products that have a lot of powerful ingredients and science behind them. So what makes Dermaquest Skin Therapy as good or better than any other high tech product line you’re considering?
Perhaps the best way to help describe Dermaquest is to share with you some of their major ingredients that are being featured in their product lines, and after that, my personal experience with a few of the many products they offer.:
One of Dermaquest’s more popular products is the Advanced B5 Serum ($69.00 1 fl. oz., $49.00 .5 fl. oz). The lightweight, advanced hydration serum in a nice, silvery pump smells fresh and herbal, and it conditions and strengthens the skin and is beneficial for all skin types. Not surprisingly, it features Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) and Panthenol (B5) which draws in and attracts moisture. Anti aging ingredients Actifirm TS and MDI Complex also help support the skin and encourage collagen and elastin production. Actifirm TS is a complex of centella Asiatica extract and coneflower extract that promotes collagen elastin and hylauronic acid, to increase skin’s firmness and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. MDI complex is a marine enzyme which inhibits the breakdown of collagen. It also mimics glycosaminoglycans that increase the depth of hydration, moisture retention and skin firmness. Slather this on dry skin, and you notice that even rough, bumpy skin feels smoother and softer. It takes a short while to penetrate and be absorbed, but it’s worth a short wait.
I also tried the DermaPerfection Primer ($39.99 1 fl. oz. ). The first thing I really liked about the product was the packaging — a tube with a pump top that is easy to tote and stands upright on your shelf or sink. The silky primer is a clear gel, and while it isn’t greasy, it slid on like silky. You can wear it under liquid or powder foundation and is is even good for oily, sensitive and acne-prone skin types. Most primers don’t offer that kind of claim. The star ingredient is BV-OSC, a stable and effective form of Vitamin C that also has whitening, UV protection and collagen protection properties. At $39.99 for 1 fl. oz. it’s a good buy.
Perhaps my favorite product (so far) from this line is the on the go Finishing Powder SPF 30 ($62.00) 0.24 oz. This mineral finishing powder in a jar with brush top is one of those products that is just tailored perfectly for purse and for and travel. The translucent powder Is dispensed through the brush top, so there is no spillage and you can apply it with one hand. The actives are 15% zinc oxide and 15% titanium dioxide. The translucent powder mattifies and reduces shine too. With titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, it may not be the best choice for the deepest complexions, but otherwise, I can’t recommend it enough. The SPF 30 really is enough to keep you staying outdoors a little longer, with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. The powder has no parabens, no talc, no synthetic dyes, or bismuth oxycloride or oil. It also has the very coveted leaping bunny seal of approval. It’s also water-resistant. Just sweep over shiny areas of the face and voilà! Refreshed and protected skin, in a flash! Another thing I like is that you can dial up the amount you want from numbers on the neck of the jar. Turn the dial from 0 to desired level of coverage, I, II, or III. When you’re done, return the dial back to 0 to stop mineral powder flow. I just love this!
The Bottom Line: I tried a few of the products, and I liked them all. The clean, white pumps, tubes and bottles with silver tops are unisex, so your special someone can share them if you feel so inclined, and men will be more than comfortable using some of the products for their own skin care needs. There are a lot more products to discover on the Dermaquest web site, including another excellent product — the HERA Argan Oil for Skin And Hair we reviewed in our Argan Oil round-up, on January 6th.
