Lina Ariss-Abdo was inspired by her daughter, Lara, to start Les Cinq Amandes, and did so from her kitchen in 2007. The name, Five Almonds, is a nod to the mid-16th century Florentine Medici Family who introduced the dragées to all the Royal European Courts, at the wedding of Catherine De Medici in 1533. It was an instantaneous hit, and the dragée became a special candy for special occasions given in groups of five representing the five wishes for happiness, health, wealth, longevity and fertility – this tradition has spread and continues in many parts of the world. Lina updated the tradition by adding innovative flavors and colors of dragées, creating couture, modern and outstanding designs, and renewing the set of wishes to Peace, Health, Happiness, long life and of course, Love. So when you give a gift from this company you are not just providing something delicious, but also wishes for the things money can’t buy, throughout the year.
I can’t tell you how delicious some of these high quality almond and chocolate confections are…the printed page, the computer screen can’t convey it. But believe me when I tell you that there were unique flavors to entice everyone. But I think in this case some of the photos I took at the preview are probably worth 1,000 more words.
