I have always liked Avon products, especially Anew. While other companies put high price tags on cutting-edge technology, Avon seems to provide the same,. or similar, or better, nearly close to those launches, and at prices, anyone can afford. That line started out with one, impressive, anti-aging product, and now has morphed into many others. One of the newbies, exclusively Avon Clinical, is Avon Anew Clinical Luminosity Brightening Serum $54.00 1 fl. oz.
This is Avon’s first topical serum, and it features and inject able-grade skincare. The product information says it provides “an at-home option to a dermatologist laser!” They say it “instantly makes your skin look brighter and more even toned.” Furthermore, Avon claims that 80% of women saw the look of dark spots dramatically diminish and 100% of women showed more illuminated skin with visible reduction in fine wrinkles, over time (that appears to be about 8 weeks).
The Advice Sisters didn’t test this product for 8 weeks, but I did use it. What makes it unique is it’s dual formula – Anti-Dark Spot Helix: formulated with injectable-grade L-Aspartic Acid to help inhibit pigment production causing dark spots; and a brightening gel, formulated to help remove dull skin cells. Together, they form an eye-catching design in the space-age-y, clear, plastic pump bottle with silvery accents. The helix inside the clear serum is reminiscent of an skeleton, or coils straight out of “Dr. Horrible.” So far, it sounds awesome. But I am always a bit wary when a product is touted as “an option to a laser.”
I wish I could say that it really is, but while Avon and Anew products are good to spectacular, nothing I know of can penetrate deeply enough into the skin to approximate a laser peel. When I checked other people’s impressions of this product, the thumbs-up votes were nearly unanimous. There were just a few reports of breakouts, and of course, others just couldn’t manage to wait eight weeks to see results.
I think the product has potential. It appears to have the “right stuff” to make smoother, clearer, brighter skin a reality. Just keep your expectations realistic and use the product as directed for a period of time. If a laser peel isn’t in your future, and your skin just needs a help to get rid of mild age spots and blotchiness, this product might be the one you’ve been seeking. However, if your skin really needs resurfacing, I would check with your dermatologist, and see if a product you apply just on the skin, will work well for you.
