Editors go to lots of events and showcases, but some are better than others. One that The Advice Sisters always attend because I’m bound to make new connections with unusual brands that I can share with my readers, is the beautypress Showcase. The beautypress showcase does a good job of facilitating relationships between beauty brands and beauty editors. At the latest beautypress Showcase, brands who exhibited included The Aloe Source, Be Fine, Gatsby, Uberliss, SeneGence, Memoire Liquide, Pampadour, GrandeLash-MD, Vitaman, and Cliqué by Chef Roblé. You might wonder what all of these have in common, but there really was just a potpourri of different types of beauty products focusing on skincare, hair care for both men and women, men’s care, fragrance, and more. I also got a chance to chat with the great people at Pampadour, a social media website created for beauty enthusiasts (and you can follow me there as well). For the first time ever I was asked by the Pampadour Staff that red carpet stand-by: “what are you wearing?” They meant makeup, of course. I can’t remember all the items I was wearing that day, but they included NARS, Stila, Maybelline, Kiehls, and Cover Girl. That’s quite a mix, don’t you think?
All of the brands were interesting, but I do have some favorites. For example, I enjoyed chatting with the people from GrandeLash. They have a lash-boosting product and a new mascara that pack a one-two punch against thin and short lashes. Like all of the lash-boosting products, you have to commit to using them regularly and for a while to see results. I haven’t tried the mascara yet, but I’m going to and will include it in a review this year–promise!
The Advice Sisters have reviewed Lip Sense from SenGence in various forms, a couple of times, but they’ve come up with a new, three step process and a bunch of really pretty lipstick colors. I wear-tested one of their reds at the event, and the lipstick stayed on until night-time, when I used a makeup remover to remove the residue. If you’re looking for something long lasting, LipSense, makes sense!
Hair products are always a favorite, and at this showcase there was Uberliss, a line that features two different in-salon keratin treatments, as well as “at-home” products like a hydrating shampoo and conditioner (also in my queue to review).
Fragrance is also one of my personal passions, so I was happy to check out the ready to wear (they have a bespoke line as well) fragrance of Memoire Liquide. Their fragrances are quite unique (you won’t smell yourself coming and going on everyone) and also on the high end. If I can make a connection for samples, you’ll be hearing more about Memoire Liquide from The Advice Sisters.
Editors may pretend not to eat or drink anything, but they do get hungry. Cocktails and food served at Spotlight Day were created by Chef Roblé & Co. with a liquor sponsor from SX Liquors. The french toast yummies that are supposed to be inspiring a Chef Roble fragrance, were too delicious to eat just one.
Finally, the beautypress spotlight day is a chance to chat and catch up with friends and colleagues. Here I am with my friend Candice Sabatini, Co-Owner of BeautyNewsNYC, billed as the first online beauty magazine.
A Holiday Spotlight Day strictly for digital media editors (thank you beautypress for not just calling us “bloggers”) will be held on November 6, 2013 at New York City’s Midtown Loft & Terrace. I hope to be there!
