Some skincare products are so pricey we think they are justified as holiday gift ideas. If you received bellatorra Cellular Repair Night Cream ($385 1.70 fl. oz. ) which just launched last month, someone out there really likes you! Bellatorra’s skincare products are high-tech, exciting, very luxurious and the cost per product can reach up into the $400+ range.
About bellatorra Skincare
Launched in 2013, bellatorra Skin Care uses proprietary nanotechnology (Torra 48) to release the active ingredients in its anti-aging lotions and serums over a 48-hour period. The slow penetration of vitamins, minerals, and plant stem cells into the deepest layers of skin is designed to provide long-lasting, skin-soothing benefits. bellatorra’s patent-pending formula can be found in its cleansers, eye creams, and revitalizing mists.
In 2015 advicesisters.com reviewed the bellatorra Cellular Renewal Serum . We liked the way it felt and performed and the hydration was excellent. At $350 we did think it was a splurge.
Fast forward to 2016 and we received a jar of the new bellatorra Cellular Repair Night Cream.
This is a rich cream that supposedly has a 48 hour timed-release cream to deliver repair and hydration benefits. It delivers encapsulated ingredients of retinol, glycolic acid and sodium hyaluronate to the deepest layers of the skin.
Bellatorra claims the ingredients will not just hydrate and plump up skin. but, (to quote the website) the product: “regenerates, repairs, plumps and moisturizes from within as well as volumizing slack skin from the cheek, neck and jaw area.”
There are Excellent, Bio-Engineered Ingredients
I can’t prove or disprove the claim about volumizing, but as the everything else, it did make my skin feel amazing.
There are lots of bio-engineered ingredients that appear powerful, with actives that are proven skin-enhancers, and the cream is paraben-free.
Trio-Spheres – Encapsulated active ingredients of retinol, glycolic acid, and sodium hylaluronate that gently exfoliate, retexturize, increases skin cell renewal and delivers intense hydration.
Super Vitamin C – Protects skin from DNA damage, boosts collagen and brightens. There are different forms of Vitamin C. Super Vitamin C is categorized as combined with antioxidants to help increase skin firmness, tone, brightness, and photo aging protection. The Concentration of Vitamin C in this Night Cream is (20%).
Crocus Chrysanthus – Boosts cell energy and repairs cells faster and more effectively; Tetrapeptide-3 – Triggers collagen production and other youth proteins.
Tripeptide -1 – Boosts skin renewal process and increases facial volume; Bio-engineered SOD – Powerful antioxidant protects skin from environmental damage.
Dipeptide – Fights against skin sagging and improves resistance to gravity; Edelweiss – Lifts face, neck and cheeks, tightens sagging skin. Smoothes out crow’s feet.
Vibrio Aliginolyticus – Maintains an optimal skin barrier function and restores natural hydration; Torra48 – fortyeight hour Advanced Delivery System.
Where’s the Applicator?
When you are paying hundreds of dollars for a skincare cream, you want it to last until the product is finished.
The outer carton was a simple, hard-sided box. *correction: we apologize for missing this (Instructions are on the box, as are ingredients etc. on the underside of the box).
I’m not a fan of skincare in a screw-top jar. However, this cream is so rich there might have been limited options.
Additionally. while glass is elegant it is easily broken. I assume the blue glass helps to protect the product. I’ve been advised that their super vitamin c doesn’t break down with uv light or oxidize – unlike regular vitamin c. So let’s just say the jar is attractive.
The problem is that once you open that jar the clock starts ticking on it’s use-ability. It will become contaminated by skin, hair, and pollutants in the air. I have been advised that the Bellatorra delivery system protects from contaminants, uv and air (oxygen). I was told that even air isn’t a problem because the actives that might otherwise be contaminated (like retinol) are encapsulated and protected. They only become active once they are applied and have penetrated the skin. They company says that this is one of the reasons why the torra48 delivery system is so powerful.
In my opinion, and maybe that’s just what it is, the spatula that they do NOT include still means you’re sticking your fingers (dirty or clean) into a jar of product.I still say it’s a bad idea as pet hair, your hair, dirt under your fingernails, dead skin cells and other things can and will mix with the product. If you disagree, feel free to say so!
The Bottom Line
Generally speaking, for some, a luxury skincare brand like Bellatorra is a real splurge, maybe even out of reach, but for others, it’s just part of what they’re willing to pay for better looking skin.
Moreover, I don’t know what category you as a reader fall into, but I can say that biotech isn’t inexpensive, and bellatorra has a bunch of impressive and potentially powerful ingredients in it that could potentially do great things for your skin.
The bottom line for this bellatorra product is that it’s a luxurious cream that is delightful to use. Ideally, if you purchase it you will use it regularly.
I say if you can afford it, especially now during Winter when skin really needs TLC, go for it!
