New Cosmetics: Bring On the Sun, Make the Most of the Moist & the MATTE
By advicesisters.com staff
For Lips: Moist or Matte?
We love the moist formula of Mally Beauty’s H3 Gel Lipsticks ($21).
There’s nothing pretty about wearing intense color when your lips are so parched they are crying out for TLC.
Mally’s gel-infused H3 Gel Lipstick is different because it is gel-based lipstick rather than wax-based.
Wax can be drying, but this gel formula adds tons of hydration (the “H3” means: Hydration, Hydration, Hydration).
There are a dozen colors to choose from, and they’re all intense and pretty.
We’re showing you just one we tried called “Poppie” that’s a bright pink with just a hint of apricot for warmth.
No matter what you choose your lips will thank you!
On the opposite site of the lipstick lover’s color spectrum is the trendy Essence Cosmetics’ matt matt matt lipstick ($2.99).
There are 8 shades in medium to deep tones, with long-wear color and a matte finish.
But unlike some matte formulas, these still feel moist on your lips and (thankfully) won’t dry them out.
Here are two to try: #05 Red-Y or Not? a deep rich red (because red is classic for any reason in any season).
Deep and dramatic is #08 It’s a Statement (in photo_ which is a very deep purple.
No matter your skin tone, you’ll see this in all the fashion magazines and fashionistas, everywhere.
For super-intensive hydration before, during or after you’ve applied your favorite lip colors try one of the many types of lip balm from Carmex, one of our favorite brands.
Their Classic Lip Balm with SPF 15 has been reviewed many times on advicesisters.com but we love it and suggest it every season. **use our search box to find all our Carmex reviews.
The “Classic” is clear soft, soothing, and slightly shiny.
It soothes with soothes lips with camphor and menthol and it’s also available in flavors such as cherry, and strawberry.
All Eyes on You:
A perfect example of an exciting eye shadow palette is this Lune + Aster Midnight Sun Eyeshadow Palette ($54).
It speaks softly but makes a big impact day or night with three matte shades and three shimmery shades.
The luxurious, soft and velvety earth-toned shades applied dry are intense but neutral. Wet a brush in the darker shades and you have nice
But they have a split personality.
Wet a brush in the darker shades and you have eye liners. Wet the shimmers and you’ll get some brilliantly glam shadow for the evening.
The shadows themselves are Paraben, Phthalate, Gluten free and Vegan plus they’re Dermatologist tested, but not tested on animals.
So great, we need a lot more from Lune + Aster!
Multi-tasking budget beauties will appreciate something new, multi-taking, and travel-friendly –the Contouring Eye Pencil ($3.49) from Essence Cosmetics.
The dual-ended pencil works as an eyeliner, an eye shadow, and a highlighter.
We tried “Chocolate Meets Vanilla,” (in photo) with featuring an intense medium brown matte on one end and a perle vanilla highlight on the other.
There’s also a “Caramel Meets Frosting” with lighter tones.
We used ours not just on our eyes, but also to accent a cupid’s bow on our lips!
Color and Contour Your Cheeks:
Summer is coming but it’s not here yet.
To get that “California girl” look without any effort, get this we adore this adorably packaged California Dreaming Cheek Palette ($30) by LORAC.
This highlight, blush, and bronzer palette has 4 limited-edition shades of intense color to add highlight, color, and glow to your complexion.
The names alone will have you glowing: Ray is moistly matte, Wavelength has a touch of shimmery perle, Golden Hour and Sunlight are even more glow-y.
Essence Cosmetics also gives you a pearly glow, with their Satin Touch Blush ($2.99).
The velvety soft powder blush is so highly pigmented you really need just a dusting with a big, soft brush.
It also has a fair amount (but not so much you look shiny) of perle.
We tried #20 Satin Love which is a peachy pink perle, and there is also #10 “Satin Coral.”
We loved the way this brighten up our Winter-weary cheeks but we also discovered that it looked nice dotted on our lips.
Nice to know these are also never tested on animals.
To Finish Your Face:
No one needs to advertise their flaws!
That’s why we’re liking the budget beauty “find” of the Essence Cosmetics’ All I Need Concealer Palette ($5.49)
This slim palette of 5 creamy concealers includes mint (reduces the look of redness and broken capillaries) and pink (deals with darkness, dullness and blue veins, particularly if your skin is fair skin).
You also get light, medium, and dark concealer tones.
In our test, the concealers were opaque enough to really cover up everything, even freckles, and stayed put.
Maybe you don’t think you need another luminizer, but that’s just because you haven’t met the multi-tasking LORAC Light Source 3-in-1 Illuminating Primer ($35).
This really is a multi-tasking wonder in an airless pump bottle.
A paraben-free, high-pearl primer features light diffusing, soft focus pigments to use as a face primer, mixed with foundation or moisturizer, or used wherever you want to brighten a highlight.
There is also a lovely lavender scent which is very calming.
We tried “Dawn,” which gave our skin a very subtle glow,, but there’ also “Dusk” for a golden glow.
You’ll love it enough to want both colors!
