The MAC Caitlyn Jenner Collection Wins the Gold
By Alison Blackman
Caitlyn Jenner’s makeup collection for MAC Cosmetics is another important another one for the makeup company that, like Caitlyn Jenner herself is not afraid to make waves.
MAC Cosmetics has been a champion of celebrities who make news (and fashion) no matter what their views and in this case, their gender orientation.
The Olympic athlete that has embraced a new path in life, has brought awareness, along with controversy, to the LGBT community and the world.
But this isn’t a feature about politics, it’s about makeup.
A Personal Comment:
I have heard that some people think the makeup is just for transgendered people. This is not true. The collection is a MAC Cosmetics collection. They make cosmetics to suit a general population, and this collection is for everyone with skin.
In April, MAC Cosmetics released “Finally Free,” a single pink lipstick in collaboration with Caitlyn Jenner. This is a complete collection of makeup, consisting mostly of universally flattering pinks and nudes.
My understanding is that some have complained it’s Ru Paul who has done so much for the LGBT community who should have been awarded his own collection by MAC. All they’ve given him (so fa) is a lipstick.
I agree that Ru Paul has done amazing things for the human race and especially for the LGBT community, for entertainment and that he’s a drag queen of mammoth talent, an accomplished entrepreneur, and very smart person. But Caitlyn Jenner is living live as a woman, and Ru Paul is a man living as a man. Ru Paul is for the record, gay, not transgendered. I would love to see Ru Paul have his own collection for MAC Cosmetics for so many reasons, but the Kardashian name to which Jenner is attached, sells everything. And he has stepped out publically as transitioning to female. Consider too, that MAC Cosmetics is above all, a business. Caitlyn Jenner sells.
Let’s Look at the Caitlyn Jenner for MAC Makeup!
This doesn’t take anything away from the cosmetics. I only received a few of the lip products, but I love them. Trying them on, I can see how they are universally flattering, and how the colors can be mixed and matched. This is a bonus for those who might not be as skilled with makeup (maybe a new transgendered male) or for a woman who just wants believable, easy to wear colors that are well coordinated.
LIPSTICK
Authentic Red deep red (cremesheen) – it’s not a classic red, even though it’s called “Authentic.” Ther’s a lot of pink in this lovely cool red and a lot of shimmer. It’s a four-season color!
Rockit! mid-tone beige (cremesheen) *this medium deep nude didn’t do much for me, at first. Adding the “Tolerance” Cremesheen glass over it deepened the color just enough, adding golden highlight to make it the first nude look I’ve ever adored…and I mean this, seriously!

The Bottom Line:
I didn’t see a lot of reviews for this collection, which actually launched a couple of weeks ago. I suspect some beauty editors felt it would be too controversial to write about. But to me, makeup is makeup and this is a lovely one with wearable colors that everyone, and I mean everyone, can embrace.
I love the packaging. The cases are special: matte black with gold tops and the Caitlyn Jenner MAC logo on them. The outer cartons are shiny gold. I’d suspect this is a nod to Jenner’s Olympic gold medals, or perhaps, the golden rule to always be “true to yourself.” Take it however you want, the Caitlyn Jenner for MAC Cosmetics looks to be a winner, if not a gold medal champion like Jenner!
