Now that the Summer is (almost) officially over, it’s time to get back to school, and focus on home and family. You may have noticed that The Advice Sisters are doing the same. We recently reviewed NEST’s luxuriously scented, bath & body items. But Caldrea is another line of luxuriously fragranced, beautifully packaged, home products The company has a very wide range of products, from impressive gift sets to fragrance every part of your home, to hand creams, elegant home scents, and even more mundane, but still lovely, cleansers. The earth-friendly products use plant-derived ingredients and natural essential oils. They’re also biodegradable and not tested on animals.
One collection that’s new for the home, and that is not just functional, but beautiful, is the Caldrea Essential Collection Kitchen Fragrance Diffuser. More elegant than a plug in, less intense than a candle, and flame-free, these modern fragrance diffusers are not just bottles with sticks in them that absorb oil through the wooden reeds. These are truly elegant, white (should be refillable but refills are not being offered just yet) ceramic “pots” out of which spouts a ceramic “leaf” in a color signifying the scent that’s inside. The diffuser comes nicely boxed with a diffuser pot and leaf, and a small bottle of essential fragrance oil for $19.99. You simply pour the oil into the ceramic pot, and place the leaf stem in the hole provided. Within 24 hours, the oil absorbs into the ceramic stem, diffusing the scent into your kitchen, or whatever room you choose to put it in.
I tried the Citron Ginger scent, with a yello-green stemmed diffuser that really does look like you’re sprouting a new plant in it. SO cute! The uplifting, green scent is a mix of ginger, lemon and basil (sounds good enough to eat, doesn’t it)? It’s lemony with just a hint of spicy ginger. It’s uplifting, and works really well in the kitchen, but would also be nice in any room where you like to feel refreshed. There’s also Green Tea Verbena (green), Hibiscus Yuzu (coral), and Herbs of Provence (blue). In a small room you just get that tiny hint of “aaahhh” when you walk by. It’s just a little thing you can do to make life a bit more luxurious and satisfying. And, a bottle lasts for weeks.
Diffusers add a subtle hint of scent to the air, over a long period of time. I love them for ambiance in small spaces, but they don’t produce a big blast of scent. If you have a smell that you want to mask or eliminate (how to put this delicately) that is so bad it’s peeling the paint off the walls, a diffuser isn’t going to mask it. For that you need “big guns” such as a room spray (and Caldrea has plenty of those, too).
When you’re shopping for gifts, you can find the same fragrances as the kitchen diffuser (and lots more) in everything from laundry soap to hand soap and hand cream. But Caldrea also has some of the most nicely packaged gift sets (tip for the holidays) and they’re not going to set you back a Queen’s ransom. You can check everything out on the Caldrea Web Site, or, closer to home, find Caldrea items at Target stores and Target online.
