“Simply Sensational” Those are the two words that I always seem to use to describe a Carmen Marc Valvo runway show. You can’t help but leave feelings uplifted, sighing a bit with pleasure.
At Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015, Carmen Marc Valvo is celebrating his 25th year in the fashion industry. I had hoped for a collection that would bring his signature to the runway, that of modern glamour. And he didn’t disappoint. The designs were polished cocktail dresses and glamorous evening gowns but there were new twists, including an actual twist in beauty — a sideswept bun fashioned by Ted Gibson that was controlled, but there was just something a bit naughty about it, while Romero Jennings did those signature red lips for M-A-C-.
When it came to color in the clothing, Valvo did a lot of the usual classic of black/white/ivory but there was the surprise of bold floral prints, too. And the menswear was bold, bright and floral as well. While that might not appeal to a conservative dresser, fashion conscious men will know how to pair these pieces, nicely. Some of the women’s dresses had a retro feel, featuring cropped tops over tight waists which reminded me of the dancers in Elvis movies, but these were made more current with the addition of sheer, organza long skirts over the short dresses, letting that “sexy” shine through. When it came to swimwear, start dieting now, but the good news is that if you cover a Carmen Marc Valvo design, there will be something that will flatter every body type, and he has plenty of products for every body type. While there are those red carpet gowns, a lot of the collection was geared to less lofty events as well. And there are Carmen Mac Valvo accessories: handbags, shoes, and jewelry…..Sigh! Sigh! Sigh!
Who wouldn’t dream of wearing something by this amazing designer?
