In the “old days” fragrances were specifically labeled for women or for men. But these days, gender is fluid. It makes sense that the “fluid” in fragrance bottles should be as well.
That’s certainly true for the new version of Déclaration Parfum Spray by Cartier. This beautiful floriental fragrance may have a target audience of men, but it’s wicked sexy on women.
The Notes:
It’s modeled after the men’s Déclaration Eau de Toilette launched 20 years ago with a masculine scent including notes of orange, cedar, birchwood, and oakmoss made more intense with wood, balsamic, leather, and spice notes. It definitely is designed to linger on your skin for a long time.
Also note-able (pun intended) is the addition of cardamom which is a first for a Cartier Fragrance.
This new version of Déclaration was designed by Cartier’s In-House Perfumer Mathilde Laurent (click here for a list of just some of the famous fragrances she has created), there is cardamom in the notes (a first for a Cartier fragrance).
If you’ve cooked with cardamom (ground or seeds) you know that it’s aromatic and slightly woody and spicy. The oil is even more intense with a hint of eucalyptus, which I think I smell in the 2018 Déclaration.
Elegant & Empowering Packaging
The packaging is also quite striking (following the lead of the original Déclaration). Cartier is known for beautiful jewelry and watches, and the fragrances always reflect that high end luxury.
Déclaration 2018 features the iconic “Cartier red + gold” outer carton and inside you’ll find a tall, powerful-looking tower of beveled glass with a tall, shiny pewter neck topped with a unique spray diffuser with a metal bar that locks into place.
I love the locking top….if it were metal instead of glass it would be the ultimate perfume flask for travel. On the beautiful glass bottle it’s an elegant and striking touch.
Bottom Line/Where to Buy:
Is there a “story” for Déclaration? The official description I read is: “ A fragrance for expressing the things that matter. An emotional fragrance leaving a woody, spiced trail enlivened with a note of freshness.”
The bottom line about this exciting new Cartier Declaration Parfum Spray is that it feels empowering and very seductive. While I think it’s mostly men who will want it and wear it, I really think it works for more than just the guys.
I’ve been wearing it and I quickly realized that it attracts men like moths to a flame. If you’re a woman (or whichever gender you identify with) the elegant woodsy fragrance will be unique on your skin skin.
