Caswell-Massey products were in the spotlight for an editor’s event at Perfumariē in New York City, highlighting legacy fragrances, new fragrances (including a collection in collaboration with the New York Botanical Garden), and also some newly-revised fragrances.
A visit to Perfumariē is a unique way to learn about fragrance. Consumers can “blind smell test” lots of different scents identified only by number. When you’re ready to purchase your favorite, only then is the identity of the scent revealed. When it comes to many of Caswell-Massey’s beloved fragrances and hard-milled scented soaps, fans can recognize them at first sniff, even without a label.
Caswell Massey’s history is long and venerable. As time goes by, some of the ingredients in some of their popular fragrances may not be available any longer, or they may not be the best choice in today’s market for other reasons. At the Perfumariē event editors had the opportunity to try some of Caswell-Massey’s “updated” signature fragrances, and also try some that have recently launched (or will soon launch) in their fine fragrance collection.
Some of the new and soon to be released fragrances from Caswell-Massey include Marem, Beatrix Rose Perfume, ROS for Men, the New York Botanical Garden Floral EDT Collaboration, and ” Supernatural Number Six” arriving in the Fall of 2018. ,
While we wait for the next batch of sensational scents, I’ve focused in on LX48 Cologne ($125 3 fl. oz.) is the first new cologne fragrance for men introduced by Caswell-Massey in over 30 years.
This niche fragrance is inspired by the storied men’s colognes developed for private clientele at Caswell-Massey’s famous New York City store on Lexington & 48th Street – a hint of the mid-century man with leather and tobacco; distinctly made for the twenty-first century.
There really isn’t any such thing as just male or female fragrances, especially in this age of “gender fluid.” It matters only if you like the fragrance and if it translates nicely to your skin.
I have been wearing LX48 and I love the slightly smoky and spicy scent with key notes of Leather, Tobacco, Cedarwood, and Oakmoss. The fragrance is not overbearing, just lightly sensual.
Limited quantities are available exclusively online at Caswell-Massey.com and at select retailers. Packaged in a distinct gold-embossed premium LX48 set box with the Caswell-Massey mark.
Even better it is made in the USA from high-quality fragrance and essential oils and not tested on animals
Another unisex fragrance for everyone to enjoy now is Centuries Sandalwood ($75 1.7 oz. EDT).
I think of this sandalwood fragrance as sandalwood all grown up. Sandalwood could remind some of buffalo hide sandals and flower children, but not this one!
The intoxicating fragrance is soft, subdued, unisex. Cypriol and botanicals make it a smoother, woody, earthy, deep, and somewhat pungent scent —but with a very soft touch.
Centuries Sandalwood Eau De Toilette was designed to be a daytime fragrance featuring notes of Australian Sandalwood blended with a light smokey Cypriol and lush botanicals.
This newbie Sandalwood is so delicious on everyone’s skin! It’s packaged In a new Centuries box and emblazoned with Caswell-Massey’s Centuries Crest, also made in the USA with the highest quality fragrance oils and not tested on animals.
Another in a long line of Caswell-Massey items I love are their oval hard-milled soaps.
I remember purchasing these at the brand’s South Street Seaport store years ago, when I didn’t have a lot of money for luxury gifts or splurges, The soaps (literally) made my day, every time I used them.
My love for these soaps was once again renewed in 2001 when advicesisters.com received two travel kits for review: Caswell Massey SPA English lavender and almond & Aloe scented travel kits.
Our photo of the Caswell-Massey Signature Soap Collection ($29) featuring one each of the English Lavender, Almond & Aloe, and a sassy cheerful Verbena!
These luxe, beautifully-lathering soaps moisturize and cleanse while the triple-milled formula keeps the’ fragrance going throughout the bar. Caswell-Massey says their soap will last 2-3 times longer than other soaps. They’re also gluten-free, and also free of parabens, phthalates, and lauryl and laureth sulfates, with an organic vegetable base of Palm and Coconut Oils.
Mothers Day, Father’s Day, and other special occasions are arriving soon. All of these scent goodies make great gifts, and there are many more gift-ables available at Caswell-Massey as well. Visit Caswell-Massey in person or online: https://www.caswellmassey.com/
