Oh NO! I Broke My Phone!
If you’ve ever dropped your smartphone and watched in horror as it shattered or worse, dropped the phone into the ocean and watched it drown, you know how devasting it can feel. You’ll never have the feeling again if with a CAT S41 Smartphone by Caterpillar!
Protected With An Integrated Case:
You may think your costly Apple or Samsung phone is protected if you pay extra to house it in an expensive protective case. However, it just can’t provide the same level of protection that the protective case integrated with the CAT S41 Smartphone cab.
Additionally, waterproof/dustproof phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 meet the minimum requirements to be certified IP68 (the International standard for waterproof and dustproof). which limits you to no more than 3 feet of freshwater.
The CAT S41 Smartphone is certified to a higher standard. It will survive not only being dropped 6 feet to a concrete floor, but also a 6 foot dunking in salt water for 30 minutes.
This is an experience which would corrode any other smartphone.
Cat S41 Attention to Detail:
The CAT S41 Smartphone manages to protect the phone by attention to detail.
The outer case is a thick heavy plastic which is nearly impossible to cut but will absorb shock and protect the phone. It is patterned with an easy to grip non-slip surface.
There are seven buttons, (power on/off, volume up. volume down, back, home, tasks, and a programmable button. All are accessible with gloves on.
The display responds to both wet and gloved fingers. Each of the sockets such as headphone, micro-USB, micro SD card, Micro SIM are covered with a cap which prevents water and dust from getting inside.
The CAT S41 is a mid-level 5″ approximately $500 (carrier and rebate dependant) phone which sports a larger than normal 8-megapixel selfie camera and a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear.
It has more memory than most at this pricepoint weighing in at 3 gigabytes of main memory and 32 gigabytes of primary storage.
What is astounding is that it has a 5000 Ah non-removable battery which makes it 25% larger than the brand new Galaxy S9 Note yet it is in a smaller phone. This gives it 38 hours talk time and an amazing 44 days of standby time.
As far as usability, the CAT S41 really isn’t something you’d consider as a top of the line smartphone. For example, the colors are dull on both the display and the pictures it takes.
There isn’t any image stabilization and autofocus is minimal at best….but it’s not the main purpose of this phone.
One not so obvious consumable is the plastic screen protector that’s overlaid on the gorilla glass screen. It is designed to reduce puncture damage to the gorilla glass but it is plastic, so it will scratch over time and may need to be replaced
Who Needs a CAT S41:
There is an undeniable cool factor to the CAT S41, but it’s really meant for those who need a super-rugged phone (the camera is incidental).
This phone is designed to be a hard-working phone for those in construction, the military ( it is MIL. SPEC) and for those who engage in activities where the GoPro is the primary camera.
This is an Android 7.1 phone, and standard for Android smartphones.
If you are an AT&T or a TMobile customer or planning to become one and need a very rugged phone with great battery life, this is the phone for you.
As we said in our subject line, this is a super rugged phone that’s almost impossible to kill. It will stay with you for a long time wherever you go. You might even treat a tech lover to this phone for the holidays.
Thanks to Anthony Sabatini, our Tech Editor, for doing the testing of this phone.
