CBD seems to be in everything these days. It’s in everything from pet products to skincare. Advicesisters.com investigated some of the products in a new CBD-centric luxury line, cbdMD Botanicals. Does CBD make a real difference in Beauty Products? I tried some of the cbdMD Botanicals skincare products. I also talked to some of their experts. Here’s what I found:
The parent company cbdMD, Inc. features CBD tinctures, CBD capsules, CBD gummies, and topicals. This is their first beauty line. I was curious just how much CBD is needed to actually make a difference in beauty products. I spoke with several various people at the company and they were all eager to provide information. But I still am not sure how much CBD would really make a difference in a beauty product, if at all.
Does CBD In Beauty Products Matter?
However, in an email from Tyler Miller the cbdMD Director of Content he responded (quote): “You are correct in determining that the other ingredients can provide more definitive support; but, what we can say is that CBD may better soothe and moisturize, while also being a complementary addition to any skincare routine to better support overall health and wellness. Due to the regulatory nature of CBD and our products, we as a company are careful to follow the proper outlines set forth by these agencies so as to not provide any information that is positioned in a way to persuade potential consumers. We cannot make any “claims” about how our CBD products should be used. You can check out this dosage calculator from Today’s Health for more information.”
What I can tell you is that the cbdMD calls itself: “A luxury botanical skincare enhanced with cbdMD’s unique hemp extract blend.”. The brand uses natural ingredients, select plant-based oils, and nutrients and no parabens and harsh chemicals. The products are intended to be layered to maximize skincare benefits.
The cbdMD Product Line:
The new beauty and skincare line have 15 beauty products including Facial Oil and Serum, Toner, Moisturizers, Clearskin, Facial Mask Treatment, Exfoliant, and Body Care. The stock photo above shows six of these. As is the trend these days, cbdMD products are Cruelty-free, Non-GMO, Paraben Free, Vegan, and Gluten-free,
What Is CBD?
Advicesisters.com has done several stories about CBD in beauty products. Just to reiterate, CBD is hemp but it’s derived from the stalk of the male marijuana plant and doesn’t have any THC (the ingredient that gives you the “high”).
Is CBD Really Useful In Beauty Products?
I have always been honest in my reporting to the best of my ability. While I know CBD is touted as a wonder ingredient, But when it comes to cosmetics and skincare, it might not be just the CBD (or in the amounts included) that make a beauty product successful.
Truthfully, most skincare products I have reviewed that call themselves CBD beauty really only have a little bit of CBD in them. Even if there’s over 500 mg. of CBD there isn’t a standard (yet) for how much CBD is enough to make a significant difference.
That said, in the cbdMD Botanicals the Facial Serum, Facial Oil, Moisturizer, and Eye & Lip Cream all have 500 MG of CBD, That’s nicely stated on the boxes, and it’s about the same dose as an average CBD Gummy. The Bath Bombs all have 100 mg. of CBD.
One thing I really appreciate is the oxygen-free white non-gender specific pump containers for some of the skincare. Others are in tubes. The facial oil is in a glass dropper tipped bottle. All are inner sealed as well.
What I Tried from cbdMD:
Eye and Lip Cream/Adore Me:
I really liked the eye and lip cream (Adore Me). With all enforced mask-wearing and my continued use of long-wear lipsticks to keep color from smearing all over my face, my lips are dry and cracked. I also like not having to stick my fingers into a pot of lip balm!
Basic ingredients include Hemp Extract: (Cannabidiol, Cannabigerol, Cannabinol), Argan oil: Loaded with fatty acids to brighten skin, Jojoba oil: Provides deep moisturizing and Vitamins A, C, & E: Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
CBD Bath Bombs:
The colorful bath bombs have different scents. I tried three of the six: Lavender Romance (frankincense), Pink Resist (lavender), and Orange Rise (eucalyptus). Each CBD bath bomb has coloring that won’t leave any unwanted stains. Soaking for 30 minutes relaxes you before bed. They’re nice, large, and just $10 each. However, I’m not sure the CBD has as much benefit as much as soaking and aromatherapy.
Skincare oils are trendy. Every line seems to have one. The cbdMD facial oil ($42) is s infused with 24 wildcrafted botanicals a little goes a long way, you only need a few drops it absorbs really quickly. The dropper tip and glass bottle keep things fresh.
Basic ingredients include Hemp extract: Cannabidiol, Cannabigerol, Cannabinol, Argan oil: Hydrates and brightens, Vitamins C & E: Smooth fine lines, Turmeric: Calms and beautifies.
The Fountain of Youth dynamic Serum ($48) is a firming plumping moisturizer. It’s not shown in my photo above but the oxygen-free pump bottle is the same as Adore Me. It’s fairly emollient so maybe it isn’t the best choice for oily skin. However, there are other moisturizers to try from cbdMD.
Basic ingredients are Hemp extract: (Cannabidiol, Cannabigerol, Cannabinol), Hyaluronic acid: To ensure continuous hydration, Vitamin C: To diminish fine lines and keep skin supple, and Jojoba oil: For deep moisturizing.
The Bottom Line:
Based on the ingredients other than CBD, I’d say that the products contain good skincare ingredients. The prices are reasonable for skincare and, the packaging really helps to make your experience with the products even better. Therefore I’m giving these a thumbs up.
