Sisters and close girlfriends share a special bond –one that is created only through time, and through experiencing life’s joys and sorrows. My twin sister, Jessica Blackman Freedman (aka. “Advice Sister Jessica,”) helped me create The Advice Sisters online publications, and we co-authored a number of “Advice Sisters” self-help books. She and I worked together as business partners, but she was my best friend, too. She died in June, 2002 and is still in my thoughts, every single day.
I missed the deadline to post this for National Sisters Day, Sunday August 5th, but , I think every day is a great time to celebrate sisters.
The very successful and popular novelist, Danielle Steel has made sisters the focus of her book entitled: SISTERS (Delacorte Press, 2007). It’s the perfect, fast-paced Summer read. I plan to share a review shortly, in an upcoming issue of the Advice Sisters Enews (if you aren’t subscribed yet, it’s bi-monthly, full of AdviceSisters news, tips, and reviews–and it’s free). I’m not going to give the entire plot away, but you can bet that if it’s a Danielle Steel novel, it’ll be full of romance, twists and turns, and suspense. I can say that the book features “a tumultuous year of loss and courage” at the heart of Danielle Steel’s new novel about a remarkable family, a stunning tragedy—and what happens when four very different young women come together under one very lively roof! Get the book now at your favorite bookstore, or online.
Another way to let your sisters (or a BFF) know how much you love them, is with a special gift. Last year, Ms. Steel was part of the creation of a lovely new fragrance aptly named: Danielle ($49.50/1.7 oz Eau de Parfum). You can read my blog report of a launch cocktail reception at: http://www.advicesisters.net/2006/10/danielle-steeles-newest-and-its-not
and also get The Advice Sisters’ review of this lovely fragrance’s Eau de Toilette (de Parfum Spray $65.00 3.3 fl oz; $49.50 1.7 fl. oz. ) in the January 2007 What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review Column at: http://www.advicesisters.net/WWarchives/wwjan07.html
–but– I’ve just received the Parfum version of this Danielle Fragrance $125.00 0.5 fl. oz. Although it’s not quite a “bodice ripper”in the category of a deep oriental fragrance, it’s spicier and more intense than the Eau de Toilette, allowing the bottom notes to shine. It’s going to be an absolute necessity for Danielle Steel Fans, and for every woman who wants a sophisticated, intriguing scent as her signature. ***(check the Advice Sisters Features Page for a complete review in the October “WHAT WORKS BEAUTY, COSMETICS & FASHION REVIEW COLUMN” — coming the first week in October).
The Parfum is a nearly perfect floriental–a mixture of flowers and spice. It has lush green notes and Mediterranean mandarin; a heart of butterfly jasmine, sunset orchid and hydroponic rose, and a drydown of blue vetiver, white amber and cashmere musks. I love the elegant, substantial chunk of clear glass with faceted crystal stopper that holds the golden fragrance in the Danielle Parfum version. It simply makes me feel like a Princess every time I apply the scent.
Giving a pink box of Danielle, with it’s black lace graphics, is a very cool way for you to tell a sister or friend that she is loved. Let’s face it: flowers are nice, but they fade. A bottle of Danielle is lasting…much better than a bouquet! Even for writers, sometimes actions speak louder than words. If my sister was still here, I’d be sending her a copy of Danielle Steel’s new book: SISTERS, and a bottle of Danielle Parfum or Eau de Toilette. She’d definitely get the message that she is special and appreciated–sisters day and every day.
