3 Cheers for CeraVe Skincare + Easy to Follow Skincare Tips

May 8, 2022 By: Alison Blackman

Among the literally thousands of skincare products advicesisters.com has tried over the decades, a few brands stand out as being consistently good. One of these is CeraVe. 3 Cheers for CeraVe and their gentle, good-for-your-skin products. I’ve also included some important and easy-to-follow tips to consider for good skincare.

CeraVe Skincare:

It doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy or bright. The sun’s damaging rays are out there 365 days a year. One of my personal favorite skincare brands is CeraVe. I love their gentle, effective skincare. They are great for sensitive skin and they are affordable, user friendly, and just plain good for your skin.

Aside from all the fabulous moisturizers and cleansers are some products with SPF30. Personally, I prefer SPF 50, However, exerts feel that on a daily basis, the SPF 30 is a good start to keep your skin safe and healthy.

CeraVe sun care line products include both physical and chemical options. “Physical” sunscreens use physical UV filters. Physical sunscreens protect your skin from the sun by deflecting or blocking the sun’s rays. “Chemical”  sunscreens use chemical UV filters. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun’s rays. Some chemical filters can scatter sun rays, but still mostly just absorb them.

Moisturizing AM Lotion:

The actives have changed a bit on the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with broad-spectrum SPF 30 since we first wrote about it in 2010, The active ingredients now include 6.5% micronized zinc oxide. The rest of the actives are chemical-based; 10% homosalate, 5% octinoxate; 5% meridimate, and 2% octocrylene. The lotion is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and free of harsh ingredients, propylene glycol, and detergents that can irritate or aggravate the skin. CeraVe’s AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion also has ceramides and other moisturizing ingredients to make skin look soft and supple, including ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide.

Hydrating Sunscreen:

CeraVe has a nice Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in a sheer tint. It is great for sensitive skin and contains CeraVe’s 3 hydrating essential ceramides and niacinamide.  The actives in this one are 5.5% titanium dioxide and 10% zinc oxide. It’s unscented and blends into your skin without the “chalky” residue that mineral sunscreen sometimes has. It’s also completely non-greasy and the 1.7 fl. oz. tube with a flip-top will fit into your pocket, tote, or even a small purse.

Retinol for Daytime With SPF 30:

I personally love this product! The purple pump tube on the left-hand side of my first photo and above is CeraVe’s Skin Renewing Day Cream with SPF 30. The actives are a mixture of chemical and mineral — 7.5% octinoxate and 10.5 % Zinc Oxide

And that’s not all. Along with the ceramides and niacinamide is encapsulated retinol.  Retinol is a powerful anti-aging ingredient, but it also exposes new skin. Normally, if you use retinol you can’t go out in the sun without slathering on a ton of high-level SPF. While I still recommend doing that, it’s really awesome that you can use this product and still be safe in the sun. I’m always excited by this!

Some Skincare Tips to Consider:

WASH FACE beauty sleep ADVICESISTERS SELFIE BEAUTY HACKS ARTICLE

Lots of lather doesn’t necessarily mean a cleanser is good for your skin. You may not need lots of lather to achieve effective cleaning.

For anti-aging and health protection, wearing sunscreen with SPF 30 will block 97% of the sun’s UV rays. However, you need to re-apply it every couple of hours.

Washcloths may be irritating to the skin. If reused without washing them thoroughly, they can carry bacteria and fungi that can lead to acne and other skin conditions. This is true of microfiber cloths as well. Be sure to put them in the washing machine for a thorough cleanse.

Never re-use or share a disposable wipe. They’re called “single-use” for a reason! they can carry bacteria and fungi that can lead to acne and other skin conditions.

At Night:

Wash your face and remove your makeup before bedtime. It sounds easy but you’d be surprised to know many people just don’t. You also don’t want to get dirt, oil and makeup get on your pillow and have it transfer back to your skin.

Keep your favorite night-time skincare products next to your bed to save yourself time and help to make sure you remember to apply them

When It’s Hot:

Drink a lot of water. It’s great for your skin as well as for your body.

If your face is flushed and sweaty from exercise, let it calm down for a few minutes by rinsing with cool water.  Here are some other tips to help you beat the heat.

Your skin changes as the temperature changes. Switch your skincare routine to match the season.  Summer is coming right around the corner!
