It’s still the beginning of the year, and nothing is going perfectly smoothly. I was looking at my emails and having a particularly not great, in other words, a fairly bad day. Then a book offer caught my eye. It was about Charla Nash the woman whose face and hands were ripped off by “Travis,” a friend’s furious chimpanzee. It made the news everywhere. Poor Charla didn’t do anything to provoke the massive and powerful chimp other than hold one of his toys. And he wanted to kill her. Miraculously, she survived blind, and without facial features or hands. I am purposely not showing you any photos of Charla Nash particularly because they are copyrighted and I don’t want to sensationalize her looks. I Was Inspired:
I was inspired by her story as well as her will to live and her determination to thrive and be independent. How many of us would have given up for something far less serious?
Well, I have to say, if I was going to choose a “Things To Be Happy About” theme for 2023 it might not be something tangible such as coffee, flowers, or whatever. Instead, I’m thinking about the old saying focusing on gratitude “I cried because I had no shoes until I met the man who had no legs.”
The above quote might sound trite, but I’m pretty sure you’re all understanding what I’m getting at. Most of us are frustrated or upset about trivial things from time to time. When this happens (in 2023) I’m going to think about Charla Nash and all she had to overcome. She reminds me that my bad day is usually not terribly bad at all.
Trivial tribulations are nothing compared to suffering throughout this universe. So if you’re having a bad day, count your blessings, and be thankful you don’t have to go through life with the kinds of obstacles that Charla Nash has had to live with. Be grateful for the life you have no matter what’s in your way today.
