Christina Augilera wants you to be treated like a queen. Her fragrance called Royal Desire launched last fall, but it seems perfect for now. It is billed as an oriental fruity blend with rich floral and warm sensual notes, but it’s still more floral than spicy. The top notes are delicious enough to eat: white marshmallow, blackberry and mandarin. But the scent isn’t overly sweet. The heart adds romantic honeysuckle, rose, lily and a sassy spritz of herbs. The base is pretty standard and adds depth and sensuality: sandalwood, musk and cedar.
If I did my research correctly, Royal Desire is Augilera’s 6th scent , and it’s clear that the line has evolved with each new additional. For Royal Desire Eau de Parfum, each size brings a little surprise — a different, tiny charm attached to the neck of the bottle. Each has a lobster claw so you can clip it to a charm bracelet or a necklace. A fan-shaped charm graces the 15 ml bottle, and there’s a heart with CA engraved on it is in the 30 ml (1 fl. oz. $37.00) box, and for those who want more Royal Desire, there’s an oval fleur de lis charm on the 50 ml. bottle. It’s a cute touch, and yet another reason for fans and fragrance bottle collectors to want them all.
The outer carton has a unique design of brown ribbons (one with the heart charm dangling on it) on a blush pink background, in a paisley and silver metallic-detailed presentation. It reminds me more of wallpaper in a saloon in the Wild West than something royal, but it is pretty. The same design from the outer carton is detailed on the front of the glass bottle. The three charms featured on this “accessory collection fragrance” are shown on the back of the box, in silver metallic ink. Inside the bottle is similar to the previous ones in the Christina Aguilera collection, but the base is slightly more tapered. The bottle just reminds me of a precious potion a Disney Queen would tempt her man, or perform a spell. It’s charming, with it’s dangling charm. Youthful, but not childish.
“With this scent, I wanted to create a truly sensory experience,” says Christina, “and provide a moment every day where women could pamper themselves and feel sexy and beautiful, exuding the sensual elegance of a queen.”
Celebrity scents are sold on the personality and style of the person attached to the box and the bottle and Ms. Augilera is not just a talented singer, she’s a fashion icon for younger women. While I think the scent is probably focused on the under 20 girl, a young woman who wants to be fashionable and who can’t afford fancy fragrances on the upper end of expensive will find this nice, not-too-challenging scent as a good choice. I’m willing to bet that Christina Augilera fans and fragrance collectors, really will feel sexy and beautiful wearing Royal Desire. It’s a lovely mother’s day gift idea for a young-at-heart mom to remind her that she is the “queen” of your heart. It would also make a nice little gift for bridal attendants, or of course, for yourself. You can find Royal Desire at stores like Kohls, and learn more on the official Royal Desire Web site.
