Don’t love your skin?  the Dimitri James NuSonic AM PM Face & Body Cleansing System can clean it up

One of the leading causes of dull skin, and even breakouts, is skin that really isn’t clean. It may look clean on the surface, but clogged pores and dead skin cells (not to mention other “gunk” that an sabotage your skin, are sometimes harder to detect. While facial brushes have been around for a long time, the early versions often provided poor results due to wimpy motors and wobbly brush heads that scratched skin more than cleansed it.  Now that sonic brushes have been developed, those issues are a thing of the past. A sonic brush doesn’t just remove makeup, dirt, sweat and other impurities on your skin, it can really get into the clogged pores and blackheads, for skin that looks cleaner and brighter. When you gently remove impurities, you enhance the effectiveness of other skincare products. Better absorption can result in smoother skin with diminished lines and wrinkles, and an improved texture and tone.

I’ve been a fan of Dimitri James’ Skinn line of cosmetics for a long time now (type “Skinn” or “Dimitri James” into our search box in the upper right hand corner of the page and see all our previous reviews. Skinn is an anti-aging line which is kind of under the radar, now sold on QVC and some of the products are sold on the Skinn website.  Now Dimitri is branching out into the skin appliances area with a sonic cleansing brush system: Skinn by Dimitri James’ ($149.00).

nu sonic heads

each of these interchangeable brush heads has a specific purpose

This cleansing system is up against some stiff competition (the Advice Sisters have reviewed a number of other sonic skin cleansing brushes but this one is a hybrid, as most of the sonic skin brushes as just for the face. This one has a variety different cleansing heads including one for your body, and one with 3 roller balls that actually dispenses your favorite cleanser (warmed up) through the brush head (the others are facial brushes).  The five available cleansing heads are:  White cleanser-dispensing rollerball brush head: (3 rollerballs in the head dispense your favorite face cleansing product as you exfoliate. Good for all skin types) ; Magenta silicone brush head: (for ultra-gentle, yet effective deep cleansing, suitable for all skin types); Light blue normal skin type brush head: (this one has firmer bristles for a deep sonic cleansing, better for those with normal skin);  Light pink sensitive skin brush head: (designed with softer bristles for a gentle cleansing) ; Light green body brush head: (this one has shorter, firmer bristles. It is for cleansing your shoulders, hands, feet, elbows –don’t use it on your face or delicate skin).

The unit comes with a charging stand and you can (choose pink, blue or green on the SKINN website ).  If you want, you can buy additional brush heads separately when you’re ready to replace them (prices range from $8.50 for the body brush head, $9.50 for the facial brush heads, and $14.00 for the cleansing dispensing head).

Some facial brushes can be harsh, literally scratching your skin. If you overdo it with any brush, it might irritate your skin.  But this one is gentle, and at an effective 400 movements per second you don’t have to rub and scrub for a clean face.  The one power button and one speed control button also makes it extremely easy to operate. It is lightweight since it isn’t battery driven, but re-charged via a magnetic charger base – Input: 12V; 500mA that plugs into a wall socket. Charge it overnight and it will work for a long time. It’s also water resistant, although I didn’t drop it in water to test its limits).

Pros: It is an effective tool that comes with a variety of brush heads to suit various skin types and tasks.  It’s lightweight, with an ergonomic design, and it is re-chargeable. The universal charging cradle doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Cons:  There are some brush heads you might not use and there’s no place to store them on the unit  (my cat found two on my desk, thought they were playtoys and I have yet to find them). The noise level is medium to high.

dimitri james cleansers
You can also purchase some of Dimitri James cleansers if you wish.  We haven’t tried these, but based on our experience with Skinn products in general, we are sure they will be good.   There is a daytime cleanser  (with mild Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, antioxidants and botanical oils);  a night-time cleanser (with purifying Orange Peel Oil, soothing and ultra-hydrating Olive, Avocado and Sunflower Oils, Marigold Flower Extract and sugar cane-derived Squalane for moisture);  and a body wash cleanser (antioxidants and skin soothing Honey, Sweet Almond Protein, Oat Beta-Glucan, and Vitamins C and E, plus gourmand notes of Vanilla, Caramel and Dulce de Leche).

You can find this on several online web sites, but we suggest the SKINN website
