A Review of Four Really Cool Cleansers
By Alison Blackman
It’s a new year. Try a really cool, multitasking cleanser that can help your skin look its best:
Try Dry Oil
Dry oils are so hot right now, but if you haven’t tried a dry oil cleanser yet, here’s why you should:
Even though oil will add a beautiful sheen and help moisturize your skin, wet oils can leave a sticky residue or worse, stain your clothes. But dry oils give you the same benefits without the greasiness. These oils multi-task to moisturize your body, but can hydrate and condition just about any part of your body from your lips to your hair, and even in the shower or bath.
A new dry oil by Phytomer is Tresor de Mers ($65) Beautifying Oil Face Body Hair. This luxurious dry oil literally takes away that dull look of dry skin instantly. Use it on whatever on your body is feeling dry from cold, Winter heating, wind, or just because of your skin deserves pampering.
Mekebu oil even helps deal with the frizz and static that comes from your hair. Use just a little bit on the ends of your hair and keep “hat hair” static and frizz, way down.
This is more than just a beautifier. The blend of marine ingredients and natural oils of Sesame, Macadamia, Buriti, Glasswort and Mekabu oils help to prevent moisture loss, protects from free radicals and even strengthens fragile skin.
A final luxe touch is the light floral scent of jasmine, bergamot, white flower, vanilla that smells like a favorite fragrance.
Coming Up Roses
Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion by Phytomer ($34 8.4 fl. oz) is a gentle, lightweight alcohol-free cleanser/toner that doesn’t even require water. Simply swipe it on with a cotton pad and it removes dirt and makeup in a flash.
A star ingredient of Rosa Centifolia Flower Water. FYI: it’s a fragrant, calming botanical that softens skin and also has astringent properties.
Another key ingredient in this cleanser/toner is “Sorenia.” This natural and soothing seawater helps to relax the skin. There’s also Phytomer’s Oligomer® with skin-loving minerals to strengthen the skins’ epidermis and prevent cellular fatigue.
The product smells softly or roses (we can deal with that!). It is also good for those with sensitive skin for whom most toners are too irritating and drying.
Spa Tip: Saturate pads with Rosee Visage and put them on your eyelids to minimize puffiness and dark circles. Take a small bottle of Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion with you when you travel or to freshen up during the day.

The key ingredients include calming Sorenia, Laminnaria Pheofiltrates to moisturize, and hazelnut oil as firm and hydrate.
Cleansing milk cleansers are made from lighter weight oils and are great for normal to combination skin.
Emulsify this lotion (it really does look like milk) on your skin, then rinse it off. You’ll find a lovely, subtle floral scentand when you feel your face, you won’t believe how soft it is!
I can’t say which of the Phytomer cleansers are my favorite, they’re all great for different reasons. These cleansers are that “little something” that can make a big difference.
Natural skincare line ‘tu’ el has 5 cleansing oil + herbal toner sets to address different skin types:” Mature Skin Deep Pore Cleansing System ($56); Combo/Oily Skin Deep Pore Cleansing System ($44) ; Dry Skin Deep Pore Cleansing System ($44); Acne Skin Deep Pore Cleansing System($44); and Reactive Skin Deep Pore Cleansing System ($44)
These cleansers do more than you think. They deep clean, tone, and protect your skin while removing leftover makeup.
A Cleansing Ritual: For all of the cleansing/toning sets:
Step 1: apply the oil to dry skin (5-6 pumps) and massage it onto face and neck.
Step 2: massage 5-6 pumps of the toner over the oil until with cool water until it turns milky white. Don’t be afraid to use it on your eyes, as it removes eye makeup, too.
Step 3: Rinse your skin with cool water until your skin feels clean.
It takes a few seconds more to work with more than one product, but the benefits are shockingly great so pamper yourself and work it!
I tried The Calm Down Cleansing Oil + Herbal Toner set has Vitamins C and E, lime, sunflower, chamomile, lavender, aloe, (gentle and natural astringent) horsetail to cleanse, condition, soothe and calm skin that tends to get red or irritated.
One application and my very sensitive skin made it feel smooth and soft and a lot less dry without any reaction or redness.
For those with reactive skin, this is a great way to cleanse skin.

I also tried the duo for mature and dry skin: Rescue me Mature Cleansing Oil + Herbal Toner set, with geranium, rosemary and shea butter to rejuvenate, tone and moisturize. This really is the “big guns” of maturing and dry skin.
This duo has antioxidants and plant extracts that work to preserve and protect your skin while gently exfoliating dead skin cells and helping to stimulate cell growth and collagen production.

What’s great about these sets is that the products really do an amazing job cleansing deep down to the pores without drying out your skin and it’s a little bit of a ritual that makes you feel pampered.
The smooth glass bottles with pump tops are nice, but once your hands are oily (from Step One) holding the toner bottle with oily hands can be tricky. Also, glass bottles are breakable so they could be challenging with pets and children around.
