April Showers bring May Flowers….so the saying goes. But color is the key word this time of year. Color cosmetics for Spring bring joy to all who love to try new makeup. This season, bright colors, shimmers, matte and illuminating products are some of the trends you’ll want to try. These new color cosmetics and beauty tools are mostly budget-minded so you can stock up and be ready for the season. Which of these are going to be your new favorites?
Fox in a Box from Hard Candy (one of our favorite budget beauty brands) is brand new. It’s a fun cutie-pieb box of sheer, buildable, ffinely-milled pigment delivery believable blush/highlighter. It’s a real glow-getter!
The five different colors come with a cute mini-sized blush brush and each has a different fragrance (scratch & sniff the outer cello box to smell them) and the cover of the square cardboard compacts each have a cute girl graphic. Our samples offered us “Girl Next Door” which smells like strawberries and gives the skin an instant pink-y blush; and “Girl Boss” that offers a pearly highlight and the subtle scent of vanilla frosting.
There’s also “Glamour GIrl” ( pineapple coconut/medium bronze highlight), and “Party Girl “(chocolate scent/deeper bronze highlight) and “Uptown Girl (peach scent with a peachy blush). Guess what? They’re only $7 each exclusively at Walmart and walmart.com
Clove + Hallow offers “clean” cosmetics using what they call a “Clean 15” approach. This means they replace “questionable” chemicals with 15 or fewer safe ingredients. Made in the USA with formulas conforming to stricter EU regulations, they are also PETA-cerified cruelty-free and vegan. Our sample to introducer Clove + Hallow is the Lip Velvet ($18) in 7 colors from natural to red, to even blue.
For those you who really insist upon more natural products and “green beauty” we know Clove + Hallow will be a great match for you. But even if you don’t care about this makeup minus a lot of harsh chemicals, the Clove + Hallow Lip Velvets are luxurious treats, moisturizing with coconut oil, shea butter and Vitamin E.
Our samples included “Road Trip,” a clear neutral medium pink great for all skin tones, and the stunning warm red “Fiesta.” Both are moistly matte and long lasting, so bright and cheerful for Spring. New treats from one of our favorite brands, IT Cosmetics. Bye Bye Foundation ($39.50) is IT Cosmetics’ first full coverage moisturizing Foundation. It features broad spectrum SPF 50 to hydrate, reduces the look of dark spots and add flawless, full, lasting coverage in a dozen colors from light to deep (we tried Light/Medium) that last all day.
This product in a pump tube (we love this) features five colors and a proprietary” 3D SKIN FLEX™ Technology” for long lasting coverage.
IT Comsetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer does cover well, but like all of the IT Cosmetics products your skin will look natural but much better. This new product has tons of skin-loving, anti-aging ingredients that (it’s claimed) will improve the look of your skin in just 10 days. We say that the light-diffusing pigments that offers a flawless, ssoft-focus finish and even works for sensitive skin is your new must-have.
Apply the moisturizer/foundation with a new IT Cosmetics Airbrush Full Coverage Complexion Brush ($25) featuring bristles infused with anti-aging peptides and collagen and aunique triangular-shape that lets you get into all those small areas such as around your nose. It feels so luxurious and soft! Long Lasting Lippies
We remember when LipSense ($25) by Sengence Intl. launched and we saw the product at The Makeup Show with a modest range of lip colors that last, and last and last (up to 18 hours). Time marches on and at a recent BeautyPress Spotlight Event in for Editors in NYC, we see that LipSense has a whole lot more to offer. The lip color now comes in more than 50 shades and textures for any skin tone, including frosts, mattes and shimmers.
Our pick for the season is the LipSense new “Prism of Colors” collection featuring 5 on-trend colors: pink, purple, turquoise, deep blue and hot magenta. While the lip colors won’t budge, longwear lippies can be drying, so be sure to slick on a LipSense Moisturizing Gloss, available in a wide variety of glossy, matte, shimmer and pearl finishes plus shea butter and Vitamin E.
There is also a collection of LinerSense Lip Liners and LipSense Ooops! Remover to erase any mistakes and help remove color when you’re ready. For more information visit the Sengence Intl Website: https://www.senegence.com
MUA PRO products from CVS Pharmacy are not just for professional makeup artists, but we can see why a MUA (make up artist) would love these.
Our picks from this collection incude the MUA PRO Illuminating Primer ($13) in a tube to add a subtle glow thanks to light-reflecting pigments. This sheer, lightweight liquid can be mixed with foundation or just prep your skin before adding other face products to make your skin look even better.
The MUA PRO Illuminating Finishing Powder ($12) in a shiny, black, square compact with mirror and applicator puff in the bottom is your last step to set your foundation and other face products. Or use the neutral powder to dust on bare skin removing shine.
There is a Mattifying Version of both of these products to keep shine away and keep makeup looking great.
Budget Minded K-Beauty:
K-Beauty is such a “thing” these days, but you don’t have to pay a lot for great Korean Beauty brands. Saem Lip Fluid (under $10.50) in a wanded tube that actually looks like a lipstick bullet (so cute)!
The silky, bold intense color slides on in one stroke with good-for-your-skin hylauronic acid and other skin-loving moisturizers. The lip color applies smoothly and feels luxurious. Our sample was “Cherry Pie,” a bright clear red with a lot of pink in it. It’s the color of spring tulips!
Both Saem and MUA Pro are available in your favorite CVS drugstore or visit https://www.cvs.com/
Both mua and asem are kaplow
Nifty Makeup Cleanser
Washcloths can breed bacteria, and they’re not always kind to your face. Amanda McIntosh, creator of “The Makeup Mitty” by Take My Face Off solved the problem with two sized of teardrop-shaped fabric finger mitts (Makeup Mitty for Face- $38.50/3 ; smaller Mitty Blackout for Eyes-$42.50/5). These sort of work like finger puppets, and you can use them dry, with water, or with a touch of cleanser.
The teardrop shape lets you get into creviches that a washcloth can’t . When you’re done just wash them with gentle soap and water and hang them to dry (or tote in a zip-top bag until you get home). Mittys are also washing machine safe. Breathable Korean Polyester speeds drying. These soft, plushy mitts are fun to use, and so soft and pampering.
