Introduction:
When I trained as a certified color consultant with Beauty For All Seasons a long time ago, the traditional way to look at color analysis was based on the colors found in each season of the year. But as time wears on, this color concept can be restrictive, especially when it affects your image, head to toe: hair, makeup, and clothing. That is why ccolor consultant Jill Kirshhas created a new way to look at color consulting. For her, it’s about whatever hair color you are wearing at the moment. Read her guest post to see why Jill says everyone can wear every color. And, I also try some of Jill’s cosmetics based on her color concept. (Alison Blackman)
What Colors Will Flatter You Most In This Extremely Colorful Fall?
Guest Post by Jill Kirsh
COLOR is Most Definitely the New Black (& Brown) this Fall & we are so here for it! I mean we’re talking yellow & purple & green & PINK! But the question I’m asked is “Can I really pull off wearing these colors?” And my answer is a resounding “Absolutely when you know your best hues of all these shades.”
With my color system, everyone can wear every color. It’s all about knowing your best hues of every color. And since your hair frames your face – your eyes, your smile – you want to incorporate its color to enhance your features & look most beautiful in person & on every single virtual platform.
Find Your Most Flattering Colors, based entirely on your present hair color, for rocking this season’s fabulously colorful trends:
Golden Brown, Deep Honey Blonde & Red Hair: Mustard, Eggplant, Olive & Salmon Pink:
Warm Blonde Hair: Daffodil, Orchid, Kelly Green & Peachy Pink:
Dark Brown, Black, Salt & Pepper or Silver Hair: True Yellow, Royal Purple, Emerald Green & Fuchsia:
Gray & Ash Blonde Hair: Pale Yellow, Periwinkle, Mint Green & Dusty Rose
Testing Jill Kirsh Color Cosmetics:
I know from experience that in traditional color consultation, I’d be considered a “Spring.” However, Jill’s concept relies on hair color more than just skin tone. I checked out the different colors on her website. Based on the fact that I have reddish (well, strawberry blonde) hair, I picked the cosmetics in my color range (Golden Brown, Deep Honey Blonde, and Red Hair) that I thought would be most flattering for lips and cheeks. I didn’t try her shadows, mascara or eyeliner .
I can tell you that I really loved the products. As an editor, I try a lot products! The blush was easy to apply and gave my complexion a natural flush. The lipsticks are moisturizing and the lip liner did really stay put. The lip gloss was really reflective and pretty.
My Choices:
Out of the 8 blush choices, I selected “Nutmeg.” This is a browned rose that I know is one of my favorite blush colors. But when it came to lip color, I had a harder time. I like to wear deep red, but the colors in my range were mostly nude and soft brown, so I chose brick red (#26). However, for Liquid Matte Lipstick, Lip Gloss, and Lip Pencil, I tried a Rich Copper liquid lipstick, a Elegant Suede lip gloss, and a “Coffee” lip liner.
While it might be unflattering to wear two types of lip colors, I wanted you to see how different intensities work in Jill’s cosmetics line. Put your hand over one side, then the other. What do you think? Which do you like better? Tell me in the comments section.
Normally I would shy away from the coppery shades like this “Rich Copper” liquid lip color and “Elegant Suede” lip gloss. But personally, I think it’s more flattering than the red. I may have to rethink my red addiction!
