Why am I smiling? Duh! That’s obvious! Who wouldn’t want to post between two hunks? But there’s another reason. I was attending a Cover Girl event where the brand was showcasing some of their newest products, along with a visit from Sophia Vergara. Budget beauty can be gorgeous is the point. Why pay more when you can get really great products, for less? But whether you’re on a beer and peanuts beauty budget, or you are just a savvy shopper and lover of good beauty products, these affordable Summer beauty products from Cover Girl, will make your Summer ..and Fall, Winter and Spring .. better and more fun!
The Advice Sisters keep saying the same thing over and over again (please listen): Don’t ever leave the house without SPF protection! But I also know that many people (and I sheepishly raise my hand on this one) won’t wear a traditional sun screen unless they’re at the beach and not wearing foundation. Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation is a 3 in 1 multi-takser in a pump bottle that’s just $9.99. It is, first and foremost, a foundation, but it also sets like a primer, covers imperfections like a concealer, and leave a soft, matte finish (the one thing you really need when the weather and humidity kick in). But the thing I really love about this product is that that is includes a broad spectrum SPF 20. Unlike a lot of SPF foundations that only feature light and medium shades, this CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation has cool, neutral and warm undertones to match to the needs of most skin tones, and there are 14 shades: Ivory; Classic Ivory ; Creamy Natural; Buff Beige; Nude Beige; Natural Beige; Medium Beige; Warm Beige; Creamy Beige; Soft Honey; Golden Tan; Classic Tan; Tawny; and Soft Sable. With all this choice, you might be a bit overwhelmed. I tried Natural Beige and Nude Beige. In the bottle, these two looks almost the same, but the undertones are different. On my skin, the natural beige was rosier, and a bit brighter and warmer. This foundation is fairly opaque, but if you choose a shade that isn’t quite perfect (both were fine for me, although on my freckled skin the Natural Beige won out), you can blend it out and make it work. There is a color chart that seems accurate, on the Cover Girl Web Site. Best of all, the foundation feels weightless on your skin but stays put through a long day or evening (Covergirl doesn’t call it “Outlast” for nothing). For under $10 it is a must-have.
As I was approaching the CoverGirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balms display at an editor’s event, I was told to wait, because Sophia Vergara and her entourage (big, burly security guards) were coming through. But after Sophia showed up, smiled for photos, and wowed the editors with her charm and beauty, I finally got a chance to try out the newly revamped, Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balms for myself. I didn’t try the original formula, so I can’t make any assumptions about how these are different, but when I think of lip balms I usually envision waxy, boring sticks of cheerless, super-sheer color. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they are not really that sheer, but more of a lip stain (at least the ones I tried) with enough color and shine, and an inoffensive light scent, at a ridiculously low price of under $12.00. But the point of a lip balm is to moisturize, nurture and protect lips. These feel lovely. What I would have liked, somewhere on the product page, was a list of what those “essential lip conditioners” really are. But at least you can choose the colors.
Ink It! By Perfect Point Plus ($6.00) is a liner pencil that even Sophia Vergara couldn’t resist trying on (yes, she really did apply it and she looked glamorous doing so — how many of us could pull that off?). The slim-line swivel up pencil is soft enough to be blended easily, but it really lasts for hours and hours, without smudging or creasing. There are six colors to choose from, including the basics like black and charcoal, but I couldn’t resist trying Golden Ink (metallic gold) and Aquamarine Ink (bold turquoise). You can layer these, blend them, or use them as eye art. No matter how you choose to wear them, you’ll be able to show off your creative side, and still look beautiful. On a bit of a down note, I couldn’t get my pencil to retract back into the case. This might just have been a glitch, but my advice is to only swivel up as much as you need at one time, just to be safe.
Another pencil in a rainbow of colors that will last all day and make you seriously happy to play and color block, blend, and experiment with, are the Flamed Out Shadow Pencils (under $8.00). These are chubbier, but you can still use them as a liner or shadow. The colors are incredible! You’ll get creamy color that is easy to blend, but it’s vivid and beautiful. I tried a bright green with a turquoise and gold Ink It! liner, and felt, for a moment, like a mermaid. Truthfully, the combo was a bit out of my comfort zone, but after I got positive comments from other editors, I was glad I tried something a little different. The color really lasts, by the way. And if you want to add a finishing touch, there’s a new mascara (Flamed Out Mascara -under $10.00) with a unique, hour-glass shaped brush that gets even the shortest, most resistant lashes. I have thin, blond lashes that are shy about showing up, but the brush grabbed them and wouldn’t let go until I had lashes that looked bold and for me, almost faux. I loved this!!!
