I am so excited about the new version of Cravache Eau de Parfum by Robert Piguet
Cravache (in French) means “horse whip” or “riding crop.” The two previous versions of Cravache, are described as intense. In this modern version, there is still a significant nod to spices and leather (hence the allusion to a riding crop). However, it has a softer and more modern, unisex feel.

The Fragrance Notes:
Top: Green Mandarin, Bitter Orange
Mid: Orris, Sage, Saffron
Base: Leather, Vetiver, Crystalized Lavender
The Perfumer:
Perfumer Aurelien Guichard is the star perfumer for most, if not all, of Robert Piguets’ modern fragrances. I have reviewed some of these fine fragrances on advicesisters.com. This masterful perfumer has created some of my favorite fragrances.
The Packaging:
If you look below you will see the packaging from 1964. I love the vintage look. Today, all the Robert Piguet fragrances are housed in elegant shiny glass bottles with ribbed caps over the spray diffuser. They look impressive and expensive and non-gender specific. If you have more than one RP fragrance, they make a lovely presentation.
How Does Cravache Smell?
As to how this new version of Cravache smells, it’s a matter of your personal nose. However, I am taking the liberty of calling it “spicy-light.” The mid and bottom notes do have spice and leather. And there is sage, saffron, and orris in the heart that peek through

Cravache for men circa 1964
This new fragrance doesn’t whip you in the face with intensity. That doesn’t mean that it is wimpy by any means. I never had the pleasure of smelling the older versions. I don’t know how strong a scent they were. The modern Cravache dries to a subtle, well-balanced, soft leather /spice. It’s an excellent gender-neutral warmer weather fragrance to take with you into Fall.
