DEBORAH LIPPMAN’S SUMMER 2015 NAIL COLLECTION: PAINTED DESERT
The Painted Desert, Arizona
The Painted Desert is part of the Badlands in Arizona, but in fact, it’s a stunningly beautiful place! The Painted Desert encompasses over 93,500 acres and stretches over 160 miles. The subdued tones in the sandstone “monuments” feature stripes of subdued, earthy colors — a result of the varying mineral content in the sediments and the rate at which the sediments were laid down in the rock and mud. When sediments are deposited slowly, oxides of iron and (hematite) aluminum become concentrated in the soil. These concentrations create the red, orange, and pink colors and during a rapid sediment buildup such as a flooding event, oxygen is removed from the soil forming the blue, gray, and lavender layers. The colors change from the Northern to Southern end of the Painted Desert.

Terra Nova is my favorite, a warm camel that reminds me of my favorite wool coat, but coats nails with a soft camel that’s trendy and novel. This color was previewed at Narciso Rodriguez’s S/S 2015 runway show
Desert Moon is a pebble gray –you just can’t get enough creamy grey nail colors–a new classic.
Love In The Dunes is a purple mauve — the “boldest” of the quartet of Painted Desert Colors. But it’s creamy elegant, reminiscent of the most beautiful blackberry gelato.
