I was sniffing fragrances in a large department store and was surprised to see so many gender neutral fragrances. When the heat and humidity start to rise it’s time to stow the heavier and intense fragrances you wear in Winter. It’s time to spritz on something light and fresh like Dolce & Gabbana’s new Light Blue Italian Zest. This new citrus-centric scent is perfect for Summer and when you want to wear “something” but not a fragrance that’s heavy and intrusive.
The notes for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Italian Zest include top notes of Primofiore Lemon, Green Apple, and Bluebell while the heart is a soft mix of Bamboo, Jasmine and White rose. Sophistication is added with a dry-down of Cedarwood, Amber notes, and Musk notes. It’s not really a “lemony” fragrance, because the cedar wood, amber and musk notes keep it from being frou-frou fruity.
The primary theme is the sunny lemon. D&G Light Blue Italian Zest is a perfect name for this fragrance, inspired by bright Italian lemons and the salty Mediterranean blue sea. It feels “sunny” like a happy kiss of sun on your skin (not to be confused with suntan lotion) on your skin. The scent is targeted to women, but it’s not sweet, not overly fruity. It’s well, “zesty.” Men are going to like this and share it with their partners.
Original D&G Light Blue:
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Italian Zest is a flanker to the original Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. In fact, the notes are very similar. In D&G Light Blue they are Sicilian Citron, Bluebell, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine Sambac, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Musk. The main differences in this new Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Italian Zest the Sicilian Citron is swapped out for the Primofiore Lemon and the white rose is substituted for bluebell. The lighter floral also makes the fragrance lighter, and fresher.
The original D&G Light Blue features a chic clear glass tower and a light blue topper. In the Light Blue Italian Zest, the plastic topper is yellow, expressing the fun and joy of an Italian Summer. The blue carton has a bright and bold logo with lemons and a lemon yellow band around the box.
I don’t believe that fragrance has a gender. D&G Light Blue Italian Zest certainly works on anyone. The light fresh scent is the kind you want to wear when you are going to work, or when you want to feel fresh, but not loaded up with too much scent.
It’s great for couples who like to share their scent and even for younger people who want to wear a fragrance but aren’t ready for something too heavy or intense.
When I wear this fragrance, I wish I could jump on the back of a Vespa (think: Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday) and make a joyful dash through the streets! It’s that kind of fun and frolic-y fragrance.
