You’ve heard the phrase, “stop and smell the roses” but has anyone ever said to you: “Stop and smear the roses on your face”?
I didn’t think so!
But that’s exactly what they should be saying.
This reviewer had the chance to try a new line of products by Michael Todd True Organics that prominently feature roses. It turns out that not only is rose essential oil super expensive–it takes tens of thousands of rose blossoms, picked as they are unfolding in the early hours of dawn, to yield 1 ounce of rose essential oil—but it is also packed full of things that do wonders for the skin. Damascus rose is perfect for dry and mature skin a it contains 10 different “peptides,” including next generation tri-peptides to ratchet up collagen production in aging, collagen-deficient skin. It is also rich in essential oils of Avocado, Jojoba, Palm, Rose Hips, Wheat Germ, Carrot Seed and Neem that are combined with antioxidants A, B5, C, E and Co-Enzyme Q-10 to fortify against environmental stressors, while restoring the skin’s optimal moisture balance.
Roses may look delicate, but they pack a punch against skin saboteurs! Because of its complex combination of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it can help soothe acne, dry skin, refine your skin’s texture and moisturize dry skin. So, it can pretty much do it all. As an added bonus, it has been proven to work in aromatherapy much like lavender does. The scent of roses can calm and relieve anxiety while it’s working away wrinkle lines and smoothing pores. Sound heavenly? Keep reading.
The Michael Todd True Organics line prides itself on having products made “with certified organic ingredients, without added water and free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance or artificial color.” This means that instead of having chemicals and water—which don’t do much for the skin—acting as a filler and the main ingredients of a body care product, the Michael Todd line uses 100% Aloe Vera. Aloe juice is amazing for the skin because of it’s anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. You probably know aloe as the lotion that soothes sunburn or helps with cuts and burns, but used as a part of preventative skin care routine, it can work wonders.
I tried the Rose Face Mask, the Damascus Rose Anti-Wrinkle Cream and the Wild Rose Petal Creamy Body Wash. They all use the healing properties of roses to work in different ways. The Rose Face Mask ($34.00) comes in a tall plastic pump bottle of 3.4oz and comes out as a thin, clear gel. It’s best used after cleansing your face and left on for a few minutes before rinsing. It has a light rose smell that is pleasant and not overwhelming. I found it made my skin softer and feel cleaner, but I will note that it causes sun sensitivity, so I would recommend putting it on at night and using a sunscreen during the day.
The Damascus Rose Anti-Wrinkle Cream ($59.00) comes in a small plastic purple tub of 1.7oz and can be used twice daily as a moisturizer. It’s creamy and light like a good moisturizer but it also contains 10 different peptides. Peptides work to renew skin and perk up collagen production—which makes them perfect for fighting aging skin. I loved the smell of this one and while I didn’t notice a huge change in the appearance of my skin, I absolutely loved it as a moisturizer.
The Wild Rose Petal Creamy Body Wash ($14.00) is absolutely amazing. Every time I took a shower I felt like I was at a spa pampering myself. Between the rich lather and the amazing smell of the roses, it turns your shower into a full experience. In a body wash, the rose oil is a little less concentrated than in the moisturizer and face mask, so it doesn’t promise to change your skin as much as the face products do, but I did notice softer, bouncier skin when I used this body wash. It comes in a 10.1oz flip top bottle and is best used with a washcloth or loofah.
Overall, I really liked the Michael Todd True Organics line and felt that the rose oils promised a lot for anti-aging and delivered. The price point is low when compared to other anti-aging products, especially the at-a-steal, price for the body wash (just $14.00!!),
I would recommend taking these products out for a spin, and yes, do smear them on your face and body if they sound right for you….of if you just like the idea of smelling like roses come springtime!
