In our last feature, we revealed the details of Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage . But Elizabeth Arden is known (and loved) for some other now-iconic skincare items as well.
Elizabeth Arden started selling toiletries and fragrance in 1910. Today we’re checking out Elizabeth Arden Ceramide products, a brand new and novel Skin Renewal Booster, and their iconic, Eight Hour Cream.
Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum:
What It Is:
Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum($76.00/60 capsules) are not brand new, but the unique pillow shape was and single-dosing was very innovative at the time.
These little pillows of skincare goodness are still dispensing benefits to people all over the world!
What It Does:
Fine lines and wrinkles can happen when your skin slows down it’s ability to make the moisture-magnet lipids called Ceramides.
The serum helps to restore a healthy skin-barrier function using ceramides and two forms of antioxidant vitamin A as well as some vitamin E.
It will replenish your natural Ceramide levels and helps to retexturize your skin for a firmer, smoother look with (hopefully) fewer wrinkles.
Packaging:
A shiny gold outer carton lets you know something special is inside. A very attractive round shiny gold plastic compact with see-through window in the flip top lid lets you see the individual pillows of product inside,
The unique form of the individual capsules are perfect for travel and they deliver a single measured dose of powerful anti-oxidant and moisturizing benefits. At the time they were introduced, I don’t think anyone else had this kind of travel-friendly, single-use, measured dosages of skincare serum.
Who Is It For?
The product is for normal to dry skin. If your skin is oily it might be a bit too emollient, but we’ve used them anyway with a good result.
If you have sensitive skin you’ll love to know that the serum is fragrance- and preservative-free.
While we have used it for years keeping the capsules on our dressing table, they’re just simply fabulous for travel…just pop a few into a zip lock bag or your makeup bag. They won’t leak or break!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Protectant:
What It Is:
Created in 1930 and still Elizabeth Arden’s best seller, Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant ($22.00 1.7 fl. oz.) has had claims that someone is buying it somewhere in the world every 30 seconds. The product name, ‘Eight Hour® Cream‘, takes its inspiration from a customer who claimed it healed her son’s scraped knee in just eight hours.
What It Does:
This is an all-purpose beauty balm that soothes skin in so many ways, from dealing with dry skin to chapped lips. It has even been used as a beauty balm to gloss eyelids, cheeks, lips and legs, as well as conditioning cuticles.
Although the original is still adored, there are so many different items with 8 Hour Cream we are just going list them:
- Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant, Eight Hour® Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF 15, Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer for Face SPF 50 Sunscreen PA+++, Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer for Face SPF 15 Sunscreen PA++, Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment, Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Moisturizing Body Treatment and Eight Hour® Cream Targeted Sun Defense Stick SPF 50 Sunscreen PA+++
What’s In It:
A combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy and vitamin E plus Salicylic Acid offers soothing, antioxidant and skin-soothing, protective properties.
If there is a downside, it’s the somewhat medicinal scent, and an orange tint (it is clear and shiny on skin).
Packaging:
We are showing the very pretty and cheerful limited edition packaging in red and pink, but the regular tube in white with gray accents and a pink top is just as lovely. We’d have preferred a pump to a screw top closure, but it’s a minor point.
Who Is it For?
More like an ointment than anything else, it doesn’t absorb quickly, but that doesn’t take anything away from its cult status. Everyone should have a tube of this soothing, emollient, does-it-all product (less of a cream and more of an ointment consistency) for just about any skincare emergency.
