EMK Placental has been one of my “go-to” favorite skincare lines for a number of years now. It is embraced by celebrities who are only too happy to have their famous faces (improved by EMK Placental products) associated with the brand (e.g. Madonna and Simon Cowell, Victoria Beckham, Chee, Barbra Streisand, Leeann Rimes, Denise Richards,Tyra Banks, Martha Stewart, Bo Derek, Matt Bomer, Paula Deen and family, even Chef Andrew Zimmern –just to name a few). Consider that these folks can afford to choose any products they want to use on their skin.
This impressive, upscale line from California has products made with a botanically-derived extract the company says is virtually identical to human placental extract, but it is not from humans, it’s from plants. The reason for the placental extract is that the formula supposedly mimics the way your skin cells naturally re-charge. It not only speeds up the creation of new skin cells, but somehow gets the older ones you have now to behave more like they did in your younger days.
Other key ingredients in EMK Placental products are less exotic and include: seabuckthorn, clinically proven anti-aging peptides, paper mulberry, shea butter, sea minerals, fatty acids, and Vitamins A, E and K. All of these are proven to be good for skin. Other general benefits that I like are that the products are good for all skin types (even those who have acne or blemishes).
As someone who has sensitive skin, I’m delighted to say that I’ve never personally suffered an adverse reaction to any EMK Placental products. They are Dermatologist Tested and hypoallergenic.
The Advanced EMK Placntal Anti-Aging Face Serum ($195.00 1 fl. oz.) is an intense reparative. Having just been sent one for review, I can’t tell you that it has turned back the hands of time, since I can’t use anything long term and frankly, what works well for my skin isn’t your skin. What I can tell you is what’s in it and why I think it might be worth forking over close to two hundred dollars for one ounce of this precious liquid which is paraben and fragrance free.
This serum was part of the EMK Placental core line, and now they’ve improved it with even more Plant Placenta proteins and Synercell™ for superior skin rejuvenation. According to the press literature, it won a best of beauty award from the Examiner.
I have already briefly described how the botanical placenta helps your skin, but what the heck is Synercell™? Well, it’s a delivery system that can help your skin to receive and utilize all the repairing active ingredients in the serum, while preventing the reproduction of weak skin cells that results in loss of firm skin tone, rough texture, and dry, dull skin. Other good-for-your-skin ingredients include:
Vitamin A (Retinol) works with Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E to strengthens skin’s dermal layers and collagen and elastin structure while preventing UV damage.
Sea Kelp contains minerals essential in regenerating skin cells and preventing UV damage while retaining skin’s healthy moisture level.
Tea Tree is anti-microbial to protect red, irritated, or acne prone skin from bacteria.
Anise Extract helps to reduce discolorations and even skin tone.
Antioxidant Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme is a protectant against free radicals.
Glycosaminoglycans help naturally moisturize your skin and support collagen and elastin.
How to Use: After cleansing and toning, apply 6-10 drops from the dropper top (the bottle is glass, so be sure to put it in a place where the little ones and the furry ones can’t knock it over) into your hand, and apply to a slightly moist face, neck and decollete if you wish.
The Bottom Line:
EMK Placental Anti-Aging Face Serum – should you buy it? I always feel that it’s important to remind readers that works like magic for some, just doesn’t do it for others. Any skin care you try, be it a few dollars, or a few hundred dollars, has to be right for your skin, used properly, and used regularly.
The best skin products in the world don’t work it you use too little, or too much, or it just sits on your shelf. You also have to keep your expectations within the realm of reason. Whether a product is pricey and has exotic ingredients or you can get it in the drugstore for a couple of dollars make so difference if you think your 75-year old sun damaged skin is going to magically become that of a 20-year old. Nothing is going to do that for you that you can buy in a potion (at least that I know of).
When it comes to EMK Placental products, I have seen good results that improve the look and texture of the skin, sometimes with fast results. If you want to see other reviews I’ve done on EMK Placental products type EMK Placental into the search box at the top of this page, or check out the entire Advice Sisters What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion Review Archives (there is a search box on the archives site as well). The new formula for the EMK Placental Advanced Anti-Aging Face Serum seems to have some really good and powerful anti-oxidants and other ingredients that can help “turn back time” and prevent more damage.
It absorbs quickly without fragrance or residue, so it’s so pleasant to use. But at 6-10 drops day and evening, it isn’t going to last very long. And, you’ll want to optimally use it with other products in the EMK Placental line (pricey, but I admit to loving them), or at least a good skincare regimen that you have selected as use regularly. This serums alone is not a stand-alone that will work a miracle in my opinion, although it’s is a good tool, another anti-aging means to and end. For more information visit the EMK Placental Web Site
