C0lor palettes change not just to suit the season, but to reflect the latest trends. One way to be “on trend” without spending a fortune on a new wardrobe, is to accessorize what you’ve already got, with some of the latest makeup colors and products. Here are some to try (all available at TARGET stores or target.com) that won’t cost you a fortune, and will make you feel like a true, fashionista:
Nicole by OPI: OPI is know for good quality nail lacquers free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. Nicole by OPI, a new line launched in July 2011, is a Target-exclusive collection ($6.99 each). The products are “green,” packaged in recycled glass bottles that look like melting teardrops (how cool is that?!). Two try try The Nicole by OPI website has a cute “try it on” feature where you can accessorize a hand with not just numerous nail polish colors, but also accessories with jewelry, and jeans. New offerings for Fall with names that are clever plays on words, include: “Green Up Your Act” a mossy, subdued green the color of the leaves as they’re just about the change, as Summer, wanes. Also “I Love You Cherry Much,” a semi-sheer, glittery, pure cherry that follows the renewed disco/glam rock trend. There is also “Sounds Grape to Me” and “It’s Not Me, It’s Blue.”
Pixi by Petra has also just launched a bunch of multi-tasking makeup products available at Target, including a product with an enchanting name: All-Over Magic. This is a pressed, radiance powder that you can use to brighten, lighten, highlight and glow. Swirl a fluffy brush over all of the five, complimentary shades, and lightly dust the color on your cheeks, or use it on arms, decollete and legs for a party-perfect (but subtle), shimmer. You can even dot some on your eyes for additional glamour. Of course you could pick just one of the light, medium or dark shades to work with as well. The pretty, square, ice-green, mirrored compact has the pretty, butter-winged “Pixi” log on the front, and it’s also embossed into the design. The compact is available in Rose Radiance, Bare Radiance, and Brightening Radiance for just $24.00. If you’re looking for intense color, this isn’t the right product, however. It’s sheer and subtle. Even though the one I tried, No. 1 Bare Radiance, with warm, peachy colors, looked very deep in the compact, the swirl of color left a very sheer glow on my skin.
Makeup artist Petra Strand also created a new, Pixi Wakeup Concealer ($18.00) which may be one of the best I’ve ever tried. The moist cream in a tube with brush tip makes it easy to dot the concealer just where you need it. The product is opaque, and yet, very blendable. It erased dark shadows and even a very red scab, yet it felt weightless. The sheer, gel-like formula lasts. This product, in three shades, is a true find! You can check out more Pixi products on their official website, or just visit your favorite Target store or target.com
Jemma Kidd is a master makeup artist that knows her stuff. Each season she creates trendy but wearable colors and cosmetics that every woman can afford. For example, her newest Hi-Design Eye Color ($16.00 each) shades have been taken right from the runways around the globe. New ones to try include Trend (an intnese, matte teal great for liner or a modern, smoky eye); Sashay (a universally flattering, light lilac with a lot of Perle, Luxe (meidum warm taupe with hint of shimmer) and Stylized (pearl emerald). I also recommend “Silhouette,” an intensely pigmented, opaque light flesh that not only whisks away imperfections and discolorations on your eyelids, it makes a fantastic canvas on which to place other colors. This shade will subdue a deep color.

To round out the designer round-up for affordable makeup, there’s the amazing makeup artist, Napoleon Perdis’s products. He’s adding four new products to the line, including a primer and pre-foundation primer, an eye shadow palette of stand-out shades, faux eyelashes, and a half dozen new Duo Eye Shadow Compacts ($9.99 each). These run the gamut from an intense, sexy, shimmer deep purple with gold-shimmered white, to warmer tones with one matte, one shimmer color in complimentary shades. You can wear them alone, or blended together (have fun). Napoleon suggest you blend the lighter shadow from lash line up to the crease, then define with the darker shade in the crease. Blend, blend, blend! Although these are Fall shades, they are named after Caribbean islands: Barbados, Saint Lucia, Saint Barth’s, Martinique, Antigua, and Saint Croix. Note too that the shadows are free of parabens or talc and are infused with a natural argan preservative to moisturize and protect your skin. You get a lot, for under $10.00!
All of these products can be found at Target and Target Stores. And there’s one more signature line at Target you’ll want to investigate: Sonia Kashuk. I recently took a master makeup class with her at the Target Studios in New York City. Don’t forget to check out that review on the Advice Sisters Websites.
