Very soon, Fashion Week will be coming back to New York. At Lincoln Center and throughout the City, designers, media, buyers, stylists, photographers, and others involved in the world of fashion, will come together at the tents to see what’s in store for fashion in Fall 2013. The Advice Sisters will be there, as well. But if you don’t have access to the tents, the good news is that there are lots of other opportunities to check out unique fashion throughout the City. For example, you will want to check out the Independent Designer Pop Shop February 11th – 17th, at the Chelsea Market in NYC, featuring unique designers that are not only showcasing their work, they are selling it! You won’t even have to wait until “the season” as you would with the designers offering runway looks. You can be the first to wear something trendy right now!
As told to the Advice Sisters, Wilkinson of Barbara Wilkinson Jewelry, and Calleja of Vernakular Photo Designs, faced with a shortage of good shows to showcase their own brands, these creative entrepreneurs decided the best thing to do would be to create their own event,. Thus, the Independent Designer Pop Shop (ID Pop Shop) idea was born!
Wilkinson and Calleja did more than just rent out space and have a show. They had a clear mandate–to assemble New York City’s most exciting independent brands by designers who design and create their own products. The upcoming show on February 11th – 17th and will feature 24 independent brands, from jewelry, apparel, accessories and skin care, to home décor.
To give you an idea of what you might find, check out this wear-with-anything, trendy rose-gold or Brass I-Beam cuff by Vale jewelry ($95 value).
For those who prefer more delicate designs, you can’t go wrong with a new twist on the classic hoop. These are 24k gold-plated sterling silver lotus petal hoops with freshwater pearls ($80) by Barbara Wilkinson Jewelry.
Why We Like This; This is just a teeny sample of what you’ll find at the pop up shop. The Advice Sisters also like the idea that this show is well curated so each show is diverse and differentiated. “Our aesthetic is clean, upscale and fashion focused,” says Wilkinson. The shows are extended time-frames as well, usually a week at a time, so that customers can actually come back during the run of the show. According to the promoters, now that word of the events has grown, the show boasts wait lists of dozens of designers who wish to participate in ID Pop Shop.
Additionally, Chelsea Market is a destination in itself! The Chelsea Market attracts a healthy combination of tourists, locals, and business people with lots of shops and restaurants that lets you make shopping into shop-a-tainment! If you love the show, you can continue to keep current on ID Pop Shop happenings by following them on Twitter @IDPopShopNYC and “Like” their page on FacebookExcited? The Advice Sisters certainly are! Maybe we’ll see you there!
