Three fast and fabulous frizz fighters
Reviewed by Alison Blackman
Frizz is one of the hair woes women talk about the most. With warmer weather arriving, we’re also getting something less pleasant: more humidity, heat and frizz. You want to be out and about, not dealing with fuzzy, frizzy hair, Fortunately, frizz can be tamed. The Advice Sisters have found three fabulous items from T’Zikal, T3 Micro and Luma Brush — a hair care line, a hair dryer, and a hair straightening tool. All three will help you get out of the house faster, with shinier, healthier, frizz-free hair. Get these three and enjoy your Spring and Summer “selfies” just a little bit more.
The best heat stylers won’t make your hair look it’s best, if your hair is dry and fried. T’zikal (pronounced Tee-Zee- Cal), is a line of natural hair and skin care products that uses Honduran Ojon Oil. Why would a tropical rainforest in Central America help you have shiny beautiful hair? Ojon oil is extracted from the palm nut of the tropical Ojon Tree and it’s rich in omega oils (a single tree will only provide three cups of this precious, pure oil) that seal the hair cuticle for shine and softness and keep frizz, away. Add other high quality ingredients from the USA with no animal testing, no parabens, no artificial colors, fragrance or dye and even dry, chemically-treated hair will reap the benefits.
I tried three of the items in this new product line: shampoo and conditioner, and a lovely hand balm ($20.00 2.5 fl. oz.) The scent is earthy but pleasant. The hand balm absorbed quickly and provided a lot of moisturizing relief for dry skin. Along with Ojon oil, these products feature two other unique ingredients: Abyssinica Seed Oil (extracted from the Abyssinica plant (this oil has deeply reparative and protective properties that gives hair a glossy shine like silicone would, , and revives and brightens dull skin), and Apium Graveolens (Celery Seed Oil) which is part of that nice, earthy T’Zikal fragrance blend. T’zikal is very emollient, so not every hair type needs this kind of moisturizng care every shampoo. If your hair isn’t super-dry, it’s the kind of product you might only use once or twice a month or more as needed when your hair needs more TLC. When the sun, sand, wind, chlorine and salt are drying out your hair this Summer however, T’zikal is going to be the product range you’ll reach for more often. My hair felt super-soft and shiny. T3 is synonymous with high quality hair tools. The Advice Sisters have reviewed and loved several, including the T3 Twirl 360 curling tool and the fabulous T3 Luxe 2i Tourmaline hair dryer and the Body Waver by T3. When you travel, or if you don’t have a lot of storage space, you will wnat to know about the T3 mini that’s totally mighty, and it’s dual-voltage for travel overseas as well. The Featherweight Compact Folding Dryer from T3 (srp. $150.00) comes in a limited edition of its popular compact dryer in 4 different colors (white/rose gold, lavender, soft pink and hot pink) perfect for spring! I’m just so in love with it, I just can’t gush enough!!!
The T3 Featherweight Compact Folding Dryer folds up about the size of a small clutch bag, but it has all the power you need to dry and style even long, thick hair. It’s got everything a large, bulky, heavy, full sized beheamouth of a dryer would have, just in a compact, lightweight version. It’s infused with T3 Tourmaline SoftAire technology, offering users a powerhouse of ion-enriched air to rapidly dry large sections of hair. The ionic tourmaline also helps reduce frizz. As to bells and whistles, it has a full sized handle that folds for storage and travel. There are two speed and two heat settings. The cool shot button works like any other to set the style. There’s a cloth bag for storage. You can use the T3 SoftTouch Compact Diffuser or not, as you choose. For the price, this amazing dual voltage mini will follow you on all your travels, and you’ll reach for it at home as well. I can’t believe how well it works and how quickly it dried my hair with less frizz and a lot of shine. Don’t let the small size fool you, this is one you won’t just use for travel, because it’s a great hair dryer anywhere , any time. I’d throw over some of the “big girls”, for this one! The Classic Luma Brush ($59.00) is from a new generation of hair straightening hot tools that multi-tasks: brushing, de-frizzing, straightening, and adding shine all in one step. What;s not to love about this?! The brush is made of a durable plastic with a CERAMIC 3D surface on the brush head and has one heat setting (365 degrees) that heats up in 60 seconds that is safe for all hair types. The bristles are long enough to keep the heat away from your scalp. The company claims that it is 10 times faster than ordinary flat irons and that (on average) the Luma brush straightens hair in about 2-3 minutes. If it normally takes you 20-30 minutes to do your hair it would take you 2-3 minutes with the Luma. If it takes you 40-50 minutes it would take you 4-5 minutes.
Let’s get right to the results. Your hair might not be as challenging as my long, thick and frizzy hair, but the Luma brush straightened my (clean, dry) hair to the point where it was completely flat and shiny. in about three minutes. I know my hair is really straight when I can clearly see my highlights very clearly. Turn on the large power switch on the handle, the red light turns green (aboutg 60 seconds) and brush in large sections. It’s not suggested, but brushing from underneath as well as from the top helps if you have a lot of hair and don’t section it (the proper way is to be get the inner part of the brush head – the turquoise ceramic part- into your hair — and brush hair slowly away from your scalp in a pulling motion, while the section of hair is being held by your other hand).
Luma isn’t designed to add curves, waves or curls, but it does quickly get rid of tangles and frizz so you can style curls or waves with another tools, more efficiently. Be sure to keep that heating unit away from your skin (e.g. your ears). This is the perfect heat styler for those who dream of really straight hair or to use as a finishing brush for those days when your hair is frizzy and you don’t have time to fuss, or you’ll be adding some curls back in with a curling iron. Luma Brush comes nicely boxes with plenty of instructions, too. For under $60 it’s a fabulous tool to put into your hair care arsenal!
