FrogEye Bluetooth Electronics Will Turn Heads @FrogEye

March 1, 2013 By: Alison Blackman

“Frogeye” can mean many things. For example, a Frogeye salad is a sweet treat featuring pasta salad with coconut and marshmallows!  But frogs, themselves, are fascinating amphibians whose eyes protrude out of the sides of their head, allowing them to see in all directions, even behind them, without turning their head.

FrogEye is also the name of a great, new company that has just launched some exceptional wireless headphones, speakers and a power box. These too, will turn heads.

I will start by immediately saying I was very impressed with their products.  FrogEye has a philosophy that proclaims: “Your Life, Own It!” – Because in today’s world, you either own it or you get owned. Our connected lifestyle products are designed for those that approach life on their terms. They know what they like and they value choice. After all, life is about choices, individuality, and the freedom to follow your own path.”

FrogEye knows that consumers can choose from a myriad of products. Theirs are not just good quality, and high performance, but they are exceptional, starting with the packaging. The FrogEye outer cartons, for example, are than just a way to ship a product, and they’re attractive, but more than decorative. Each box has information about what’s in it clearly marked. It also gives you a diagram of what the product is and does, and where things are….almost a mini-manual right on the outside. The Registration numbers and bar codes are also large and clearly marked on the outer box and each box has a clear cello area so you can see in. Apart from the attractive and informative red and black outer packaging, each of the FrogEye products is encased in a hard-sided inner box, nicely padded-with-foam inserts. The instructions on how to use the products is in a foldable brochure that you can read without having to go online. The instructions are easy and to the point: get to know the product (diagram), charge it up instructions,  specifications, safety warnings, and how to register your product. Simple, easy to understand, and easy to set up products without drama and stress.

I tested the FrogEye Purpose Renegade H10 wireless headphones, the Red HotBox S7+ wireless speaker, and the Rose PowerPlay P80 mobile power bank. Once charged, all three had the easiest and fastest setup time I’ve ever experienced with new devices, and they performed, flawlessly. Usually there is some issue with pairing, but all three of these devices worked nearly instantly. Now that’s, impressive!

My favorite of the products are the super hip,  FrogEye Purpose Renegade H10 Wireless Headphones (Srp. $299.00).  It is really great to be able to use listen to music, or your phone, or other bluetooth-enabled devices, without wires, and these FrogEye Purpose Renegade H10 wireless headphones come in all sorts of cool color combos, and look amazing. They’re comfortable, fold-able, and exciting to use, especially when you’re working out and don’t want to be tangled in wires. But the sound is also pretty incredible, well worth every penny for exciting, rich, full, expressive sound. These headphones come loaded with benefits:   Active noise cancellation eliminates outside noise pollution, Crisp, clear audio from any Bluetooth device, plus a 3.5mm input for making direct connections; Intuitive headset controls;  comfortable over-the-ear design that fits different head sizes; built in microphone and automatic call notification for easily switching between music audio and phone; and a high efficiency rechargeable and replaceable Lithium battery that gives you 8-10 hours of continuous play time with a single charge.  I was able to pair my Ipod Nano with the headphones in seconds, no issues or worries, and the delight of hearing great sound through these headphones was quite a thrill, actually. My only issue, and it’s slight, is that the controls for the headphones are on the right hand earpad, and until or unless you figure out and memorize where each button is and what it does, you may end up taking them off to adjust the volume or perhaps, move a song forward on your iPod. But the controls are fairly intuitive, so after a few tries, I pretty much figure out by touch what does what.

In the box you get:  Renegade H10 Wireless Headphones; Rechargeable Lithium Battery; USB Charging Cable; 3.5mm Audio Cable; 2-Pin Aircraft Converter; ¼” Stereo Adapter, a User Guide and a nice zippered travel bag to put your folded-up headphones in.

The FrogEye headphones look pretty rugged, but they’re warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one (1) year from the time of purchase from an authorized FrogEye dealer. If a defect exists during the first year of ownership, FrogEye will make it right by (1) repairing the product at no charge using new or refurbished parts; or (2) replacing the product with an equivalent new or refurbished product, at FrogEye’s discretion. If there is a defect during the second year of ownership, FrogEye will hook you up with a 50% discount towards any replacement product of equal or greater value.

For those who just love specifications, here they are:

When you don’t feel like wearing headphones and you’re at home, at work, or someplace where you would like to hear your music or phone through a speaker, the FrogEye HotBox S7+ (Srp. $199.95 *there is also an S6 model with 1o hours of continuous play time per charge for $169.95)  is a wireless, blue-tooth-enabled speaker that is smaller than most cordless phone handsets, and yet it delivers BIG sound.  I literally jumped when I heard the sound!  The device is available in 7 cool colors, but the point is that you can use any Bluetooth® device to stream music wirelessly, while the built-in speakerphone lets you easily switch between phone calls and your favorite tunes if that Bluetooth device is your phone. There’s even a 3.5mm auxiliary jack to connect your non-wireless devices.  Even better, if you pack the HotBox S7+ in your bag, you can also charge your devices when you’re on the go. It has plenty of juice to play music for hours* on end while also powering your device. So turn up the volume and enjoy high quality music, games and movies everywhere you go.  The controls are simple and intuitive. In the box you get the Hotbox 27+ ion your choice of color, a USB Charging Cable, a 3.5mm audio Cable, carry bag and a small user guide.

Like the Renegade headphones, once charged, the HotBox S7+ paired in literally, seconds, and delivered a startingly clear and bright sound unexpected from such a small speaker.  I tried it tethered with an old IPod that wasn’t  Bluetooth enabled and it worked fine, but with the Bluetooth devices, you could take your phone or Ipod 30 feet or more away and the sound wouldn’t waver one bit. While it wasn’t exactly concert hall quality, it sounded superior to many larger speakers. I didn’t test it with a phone call, but the built-in microphone lets you listen to music and use the HotBox as a speakerphone. The wireless streaming gives you up to 16-18 hours* of continuous play time per charge, and if you plus the device in, you’ll charge it as you continue to talk or play music.   I set it in my bathroom and bluetoothed it to my iPod in my bedroom.  Itunes in the shower, safely, anyone? Now, you can!

Here are the HotBox H7+ Specifications:

Play Time Approximately 16-18 hours via Bluetooth®*

Output 95 dB at 0.5m

No less impressive is the Power Play P80 Mobile Power Bank. (Srp. $129.99  *there is a less powerful PowerPlay P30 for $79.99)  Most Mobile Chargers are not only quite heavy, they’re ugly, but the FrogEye comes in five colors (the hot pink sold me, immediately) and the size is about the same as a drink coaster. But the PowerPlay™ P80 is packer with power–enough to charge your smart phones, media players and other mobile devices 4 times* or more. The high capacity 8000mAh rechargeable lithium battery won’t let you down when you’re on the go a. A small, nylon, drawstring carry bag holds the Power Play P90, 5 different connectors including the standard iPod connector (but not the new style one for the iPod Nano 7th Generation), a USB Power Cable, Carry Bag and User Guide.

The device itself is small and light  (compared to most mobile chargers). It’s smooth and attractive. It reminds me of a river stone — you simply want to pick it up and hold it in your hand. It will add some weight to your tote, pocket or handbag, but if your phone battery is dying, or you’re in a situation where you are using your devices constantly so the batteries are draining, and you don’t really have time to stop at a charging station or there’s no place to plug in a standard charger, having something small enough to carry with you that will get devides going for a few more hours, is priceless. For an editor and photographer like me the FrogEye Power Play is a lifesaver during Fashion Week!

Even better, my pretty-in-pink FrogEye PowerPlay charged two devices at once, with two power output levels (the one “lightening” icon port is for 5v-500mA output for use with most standard mobiel phones, mp3 and Mp4 players, and other small devices. THe USB port with the two “lightening” icon is for smart phones, digital cameras, tablets, and other larger devices. See? Easy!

Here are the PowerPlay P80 Specifications:

Dimensions (L) 3.15″ (80mm)
(W) 3.15″ (80mm)
(H) .91″ (23mm)
Weight 6.53 oz. (185)g
Capacity 8000mAh
Capacity Display 4 LED Lights
Battery Lithium Polymer
Power Input DC5V / 1000mA
Output Voltage DC5V
Output Current Standard Port: 500mA USB
Fast Port: 1200mA USB
Operational Temp. 10C – 45C
Full Charge Cycle 500 times or more
Efficiency 85-90%
The Bottom Line:   Electronic devices are only as good as the accessories that fuel them.  FrogEye offers “princes” without any ‘toads” in their collection!  While the selection right now is limited to just three different devices, I have no doubt that this company will be  “hopping” out front to meet the needs of the discerning electronics user.  Each item delivered a satisfying experience that money can buy.  I can’t wait to see what they come up with, next!
