4 Great Gifts You Won’t Want to Give Away!
by Alison Blackman & advicesisters.com staff
The Advice Sisters Beauty and Style has produced a whopping 25 holiday-centric articles. But the gift ideas in this feature are the ones we know you will want to keep for yourself. We want them, too! We’ve given them detailed descriptions because each deserves a full review!
Great Hair Days:
Bun-2-Done by Conair is a nifty twist (we mean that literally) on an old-fashioned rag curl. However, this uses thoroughly modern, bendable rods that heat up.
Twist your hair into neat buns that you can actually wear while they are adding soft waves and curls to your hair.
The set will be available in 2018 but we’re giving you a sneak peek.
The six silicone rolling rods heat up as would traditional heat rollers, but after 10-15 minutes you’ll get pretty waves.
In our tests, the bendable rollers were easy to handle, but the ends of the rollers do get hot.
Juggling hair into a roll while bending the roller into a round shape and snapping the now-heated hot ends of the roller together and fastening it, takes practice. You could also use heat gloves if your hands are sensitive to heat.
For shoulder length hair this is easy. If your hair is a lot longer it might take some practice to wrap it all perfectly around the heated roller to make a perfect bun. Regardless, we welcome this new way to get ready to have a great hair day!

Pretty Pink Watch:
What do women want? Something pretty and possibly PINK! Treat yourself!
One collection that’s totally girly and more petite is the Baby-G Pink Bouquet collection from Asia inspired by cherry blossoms.
We received the light pink watch in the middle of the photo( SRP. $120) which seems to go by a number of different items numbers and price varying upon where you buy it (e.g. such as on Macys, Amazon , Ebay).
This watch and the darker pink version both feature 100-meter water resistance, world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, and a very nice LED light.
A quartz movement, Mineral Glass and synthetic resin comprise the watch case, while the band is a rubbery urethane buckle type that is fully adjustable to fit every wrist. This watch is comfortable, chic and oh so feminine.
Setting a digital watch needs an instruction booklet unless you are very intuitive, but even setting the various functions is reasonably easy.
Be on time all year with this pretty watch — definitely a gift you give yourself, ladies!

Seasonings Greetings!
For many, BBQ season is not a season, it’s all year round (as I write this my husband is grilling hamburgers in a snowstorm).
The Grill Masters Club is a monthly BBQ subscription box that brings all sorts of grilling goodies to your door including specialty sauces, dry rubs, spices, wood chips etc.
You also get a cooking tip, a discount code, and information about each product plus a recipe to try out the products. You can get 1, 3, 6 and 12 months subscriptions, and prices decrease accordingly.
Our editor’s sample box from July included 4 full sized items: A wet BBQ sauce, a dry rub, a hot mustard and a Chimichurri seasoning.
Based on the quality and variety of our box, we’re sure other boxes would hold items you might not find locally or think to use to take your grilling experiences to another level.
If you want to try the subscription for $32.95 you can get a one month box (12 months is $27.95 per box) Each box has a seasoning) in each, that’s just about $8.25 per item.
We really enjoyed these products, none of which we have seen in our local stores. The Chicken rub was particularly good (we have used plenty of dry rubs but not one specifically for chicken). The Grill Masters Club expanded our knowledge and experience with grilling. Also, you can use these products without a grill (they’re seasonings).

At-Home Skincare:
The DermaWand (approx. $90) purports to visibly reduce the signs of aging by toning, tightening and reducing the appearance of pores and fine lines & wrinkles using the same technology as the radio frequency machines used in Doctor’s offices.
For someone who wants younger looking skin painlessly with an at-home device, and/or for those on a budget, this device does perform a similar skincare treatment.
I say “similar” because in order to make any skincare device for home use safe, affordable and understandable, much of the time the level of intensity also is dialed down (Dermawand claims their at home device produces the same level of high-frequency intensity as spa machines but uses lower amplitude).
Testing the Dermawand means a commitment to using it twice daily(for approx 3 minutes per section) for a month or more. Know this up front so you won’t be annoyed or disappointed. But based on what it can do, it should work!
Like the big machines, DermaWand provides a therapeutic type massage while also delivering thermal energy and enriched oxygen. You can use it as often as you like without having to go to a doctor or spa.
How does this work? A gentle microcurrent at 100,000 cycles per second, produces a massage effect while it delivers heat under the skin’s surface which helps to improve circulation and bring fresh blood, enriched oxygen, and nutrients, to the skin’s surface.
As Editor in Chief of advicesisters.com I have tried a lot of at-home skincare devices that are baffling, but this one was easy to use (start at level 1 and move up as you feel comfortable with the device).
My editor’s sample box included the DermaWand device, 2.0-oz., storage bag and CD plus DermaVital Pre-Face Treatment hydrating moisturizer featuring Chamomile and aloe extracts, along with Hydra Infusion (additional moisturizer) and Hydra Support Cream, and a skin mist, a Skin Mist.
All of these offer decent moisturizing for skin during and after DermaWand treatments and for general use (but hydration after heat treatment is essential).
The Bottom Line: As I read other reviews, some people were very happy with the results, some not so much or at all. That’s consistent with almost all skincare and treatments.
From my perspective. I like the fact that there are 9 intensity levels to personalize the at-home treatment, With few exceptions (people with rosacea should not use this) it is good for all skin types. It is best to check with your doctor before using any device, especially if you are pregnant.
As with all treatments be they consumer or professional, your expectations, the condition of your skin, and how regularly and properly you use it, plus how committed you are to investing time each day for a long period of time, will temper your satisfaction. However, used properly, you may find you have a younger looking complexion.
Note! The price and conditions vary based on where you purchase the DermaWand. If you buy directly from their website you may be entered into a “club” with additional shipments automatically sent to you unless you cancel your enrollment.
There are gifts as an incentive and you can cancel at any time, but we want you to be advised before you buy. You can also choose to order from another DermaWand retailer (e.g. Kohls) without freebies and avoid the subscription club situation.
