Is there someone in your life that deserves a gift but you don’t know what to give her? Mothers Day is May 9th. And, there are probably other special women in your life to honor. Here are some different & affordable great idea ideas that won’t just be welcome, they’ll become some of her favorite things!
Great Gift Ideas From The Icing
The Icing has long been one of my favorite stores to purchase “gilty pleasures” that don’t cost a treasure chest full of cash. The pink polka-dotted mask case (in my photo below) along with a chic quilted handbag is in another story. There’s still so much more at The Icing to gift to yourself, to your mother, and to your favorite “others.”
The blue “Polka Dot Portfolio” makeup kit in my bottom photo retails for $24.99. That would be a fair price but guess what? This face=in-a-case kit and a few like it are one sale at the time I am writing this story, for 50% off. The set has 24 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 2 highlighters, 3 brushes (including a petite round powder brush), and 2 sponge-tip applicators. The only thing missing is your lipstick.
The colors are bold blues and p8inks, but they’re soft and blend-able and fun to experiment with. Try out the colorful undereye bag look that’s so trendy on TikTok now with the blues and deep pinks! The 7″ W x 6.5″ H cardboard magnetic closure case is still small enough to fit into a travel tote for the gym. If you miss out on this particular makeup kit no worries because there are still plenty of others at The Icing.com to delight you.
Hair Jewelry is so trendy right now. I’ve seen some that cost upwards of $300. But you can get the look for less from The Icing. The thin rope and pearl headband in my photo and the thicker golden rope headband I am showing you in this closeup for detail are just $10 each (less a penny). You seriously can’t tell any difference between these, and the more expensive ones. Some inexpensive headbands are often not finished at the ends so they can be uncomfortable behind the ear. However, the larger rope headband has smooth metals caps at the ends, the thinner headband has a satin cover.
Celebrate International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day or any day with these petite huggie cubic zirconia square split hoops ($15). They’re hard to see in my photo as they’re just about the size of a pinky nail, but I’ve included a closeup so you can see how versatile they are. They are great for shopping (they won’t’ snag on clothes when you’re trying them on) or if you’re rocking short hair or a ponytail.
Bob Marley Music Collection:
You’ve probably heard Bob Marley songs even if you didn’t know they were from Bob Marley and the Wailers: Some of the most popular include: “I Shot the Sheriff,” “One Love,” “Jamming, “Get up Stand Up” and “Three Little Birds.”
In case you really don’t know, Bob Marley is a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, Bob Marley ranks 11th. Marley used his influence as a world-famous musician to be an advocate for the rights of black people, his Rasta religion, and against poverty. Sadly, Bob Marley passed away from skin cancer in 1981. Bunny Wailer, the last remaining founder just passed away in March 2021. But the music lives on.
Marley’s mellow, syncopated style is almost hypnotic. It is almost synonymous with the sound of Jamaica and the Islands, and also cruise ship music (not kidding)! You can’t help by move your body or at least nod your head to song after song. Advicesisters.com received the 3 CD set, but audiophiles will want the collectible vinyl. there are plenty of collections. Bob Marley’s songs and legacy continue through the Marley Family and UME Continue.
Celebrate Marley’s life and legacy with a great 3CD set: Bob Marley- Songs of Freedom: The Island Years ($37.50 on Amazon) featuring the most popular songs of Bob Marley and the Wailers). You also get a nice booklet that highlights Marley’s life and offers information on the songs and the artists that play on those tracks. It’s a great introduction to more of Bob Marley’s music. The 3 CD set is a great gift, and so are the other sets. For more information, visit bobmarley.com and facebook.com/bobmarley.
A Tee That’s Better With Three!
Looking for something unusual but versatile? Triple T-shirts by Beau McCall are made in Harlem New York City. Any one of their dozens and dozens of designs will definitely turn heads. Three t-sheets are sewn together to be worn in many ways.
The first is through the head and armholes as in my photo, but you can also drape one arm, make it a poncho, a hoodie, and more. Instructions come with the T-shirt (or should I say…shirts) but you might find even more ways to wear your triple tee. Wear with leggings now and use it as a statement piece or even a beach cover-up this summer.
This is upcycling at its best. Our editorial sample has a Las Vegas theme, but you can show your interests from Tupac to Bob Dylan, Fashion Icons to superheroes and much more. Join Blondie and even the Brooklyn Museum and make a statement of your truth, too! Visit the Etsy Shop and find something one size fits all that will be a fashion “keeper.”
This Little Gift Might Save a Life:
The little gift idea from Mirai Clinical might actually help to save someone’s life. It will make them aware of how much UV light is there. The Mirai Clinical UV sensor is a slim 3.5″ mirror on a keychain. However, the other side is a UV sensor that turns pink when it is exposed to the sun. The stronger the rays, the deeper the color to show you just how much skin-damaging UV rays you are being exposed to.
I tested it in indirect sunlight and it quickly got really dark pink. I had no idea just how much UV there is when you’re just walking around. shocking! So wear sunscreen and carry one of these little sensors.
Skin cancer is more prevalent than ever and cancer the size of a dime can be lethal. Those who refuse to wear sunblock or anything with SPF will be surprised to see what’s happening to their skin. It might just make them start to use sunscreen more often. If nothing else, they can use the little mirror on the other side! Buy it from the Mirai Clinical Website
