Everyone has had a few, bad days. You can’t go through life looking, or feeling, perfect all the time, unless you are truly super-human, or have a “staff” that runs after you, celebrity style, to fix you up when you’re “fading.” The Advice Sisters can’t do much to help you with a bad day (other than come over with virtual ice-cream and two spoons), but I can offer up some general and relationship advice on my website. (Feel free to ask a question). When it comes to a bad hair day, however, I do have some specific suggestions. Here are four easy, affordable and effective quick fixes to help turn a bad hair day, around into a good one!
Color was everywhere on the Spring 2012 Fashion Week runways, from faces to toes. But why wait for Spring to add color to your life? When the skies are dark and dreary, or your hair looks a bit “blah,” a bit of color can perk it up in seconds, too. I am not saying that you need to color your hair and then live with the colorful streaks you just wanted for a short while, any time you want to add a bit of color. There’s a super fun and easy way to do it: Put on Piece’s Clip-In Color Strips easily attach to hair for a temporary pop! of color. You can even style it so it goes with your sleek look, curls, or even an updo. Each little clip-in piece gives you 16 inches of colored, 100% fine human hair in six fun, bright, colors: Amethyst, Blue, Gold, Pink, Purple and Red. It’s easy to use. Just separate your hair where you want the color, and clip it in. You can see the purple one I added in the photo, above. One strip gives your hair “attitude” and several, serious personal expression! You can see the purple strip I added to my own hair to match my purple tee shirt! I didn’t style it, I just popped it in so you could see how much fun a pop of color is! But you can learn more about how to style and care for these clip in color hair pieces on the extensions.com web site. In case you’re a bit shy about trying color, even temporary, clip-in color, you may want to know that celebrities like Kesha, Brittany Spears, Jordin Sparks and Lauren Conrad are wearing them on the red carpet At just $8.00 each (available at extensions.com) you can easily risk it, and perk up your party look. Put on Pieces Clip-In Color Strips are the perfect way to turn unexciting hair, into eye-catching hair! Visit extensions.com to get yours!
Everyone knows that when your hair is less than perfect, or the weather’s acting up, hair accessories can keep things in check. Now, Scunci (Scünci International, Inc., is a division of Conair), has developed a line of their Evolution hair accessories that actually go from land to water and won’t fray, fade, or disintegrate. So if you’re caught in the rain, no worries! Of course, these Water Wear hair accessories are also colorful and cute. The hairbands come in packs of three (lime green, turquoise and hot pink or clear and black). Wear one, two or all three together, and enjoy the cute, scalloped edging, while these rubbery, No-Slip Grip® products stay in place on your hair without pulling and snagging. When you want to remove them, just gently pull them out. Great for the gym, the beach, travel, and they’re also sweat proof and waterproof, so the colored hues won’t fade or stain color-treated hair. Scunci also makes two 14-piece cards of evolution no-slip-grip pony elastics. Get a pack of all black (for urban chic) or black, blue, pink, green, clear and purple in a 14-piece card. You can even wear them as a bunch of colorful wristbands if you feel sassy. No matter which you choose, at just srp. $2.99 for the 3-pack of headbands or a package of 14 ponytailers, you can’t go wrong! Find Scunci products in all your favorite mass market drugstores and retailers.
Hair that’s flat? There’s a cure for that! The YOU Wrap & Wave Tourmaline Ceramic Styler (SRP. $39.99) gives you curls just about any way you want them and literally, in seconds. How cool is that?! A two pronged, fork-like curling iron heats up from 310 to 400 degrees, fast, to give you natural waves, oval waves, or tighter, spiral curls. It all depends upon how you wrap your hair around the barrel(s). It is simple to use with easy to access controls, but you need to work fast (all that is needed for most curls is under 15 seconds) and you need to experiment with your hair and see how much or little time and wrapping you want. But once you’ve got it down, it’s actually fun to use. The tourmaline technology helps hair stay shiny and less frizzy, and the no-clamp design means you won’t get tell-tale crimps in your curls. The one thing I’d caution is that you really need to use the weird looking (but helpful) three-fingered heat glove when working with the YOU Wrap & Style and don’t lose your focus, because if your get your hands near a 400 degree curling iron, painful burns can happen. There are a number of different styles of YOU heat stylers and blow dryers, but the YOU Wrap & Wave is the most unique and versatile in my opinion. all the Conair YOU stylers are $29.99 – $39.99 and are available at drugstores and mass market retailers.
Living Proof has come up with some of the most innovative hair care products on the market, using high-tech formulas that inspire a bit of awe. Known for their Living Proof Anti-Frizz products, now they’ve come up with a trio of products (using their unique, moisture-controlling molecule called “PolyfluroEster), that can bring damaged hair back to the state of “virgin” hair. Hard to believe, but this RESTORE collection consists of a shampoo, conditioner and a hair masque treatment (for most this will be used twice weekly) that creates a protective layer on your hair, similar to the one you probably had on your hair as a child. Heat styling, coloring and other chemical and environmental saboteurs strip this layer away, leaving hair dull, fragile, defenseless and very porous. RESTORE increase hair’s resistance to breakage (after using the products just five times), by reducing porosity 100% and normalizing it back to what natural, healthy hair should be like. It also helps to prevent further damage. While these products can’t fix damaged hair, they can make it look and behave as if it is healthy, while protecting new hair growth so it actually is healthier. The best thing about these products is that while they do work, they don’t add heaviness back onto your hair, so you don’t have to shampoo and condition as often (as of this writing I haven’t washed my hair for three days and it still looks great). This is not only a time-saver but also a healthy thing for hair, since shampooing often continues the cycle of dryness and damage. I tried all three of the Restore products. While my hair hasn’t transformed back into the way it was when I was a child, I am still using the products, and I do see (and feel) a big difference. Definitely another awesome collection from Living Proof. The downside, if there is one, is price. The shampoo and conditioners are $28.00 each for a 8 fl. oz, bottle, and the hair masque is $42.00 for an 8 oz. jar. Used regularly, you’ll get great results, but if is going to cost you. And, if you stop using the products, the benefits will eventually fade away. However, Living Proof does sell a “Discovery Set” of 2 oz. products for $29.00 so you can see how your hair takes to the products, before you plunk down bigger dollars for the full sized items. Be warned though; once you try, you’re going to want to continue to buy! Living Proof is addictive! Visti www.livingproof.com to get yours.
