When the warm weather hits, your favorite fragrance might suddenly seem a bit much, especially when you’re waring light clothing, and less of it. But The Body Shop has got you covered, literally, by lightening up three of your favorite fragrances White Musk, Dreams Unlimited, and Love Etc. and transforming them into limited edition “Sun” fragrances. To distinguish these three Summer editions from their regular fragrance cousins, White Musk is called; White Musk Sun Glow. The Love Etc….fragrance is called Love Etc….Sun Kiss, and Dreams Unlimited is called Dreams Unlimited Sun Fresh. These, developed with the fragrance experts from the celebrated fragrance company, IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances contain lighter versions of the original fragrances, and something else that’s really nice: 50% Community Fair Trade alcohol from Ecuador. Worthy of note is that each of the three perfumers who created these affordable fragrance for The Body Shop, have also created some of the most celebrated fragrances in the world!
The tempting trio of scents feature a limited edition Eau de Toilette spray ($25.00) and a “Body Puree” ($16.50) which is less a puree and more a nicely scented body moisturizer in a plastic pump bottle with white and gold top. All three fragrances have simple packaging and really pretty ombre labels in soft shades of orange, with pink or turquoise. The distinctively-shaped bottles share the same color treatments.
A Summer fragrance needn’t be so light you can’t smell it, but it has to work well with changing body temperatures. All three
of these fragrances and their body moisturizers are nicely scented, but they have a lighter, fresher feel. If you sweat, the products won’t turn on your skin, but they still have some staying power.
Love Etc…Sun Kiss is fruity. It was created by perfumer Dominique Ropion, mixing traditional notes like amber, with something modern and bright, like nectarine. My nose sniffed something happy and citrus right at the top and later I learned it was the bright nectarine. But the rest of the notes make the mix more mellow: bergamot, nectarine, neroli jasmine,
sandalwood and amber. At drydown you do smell some of the amber and woods, but for the most part this is a fragrance
that will appeal to fruited scent lovers. It’s a happy scent!
Dreams Unlimited Sun Fresh was created by perfumer Loc Dong. He has an unusual take on mixing notes, and while the scent has prominent fruit with mandarin and watermelon notes, he adds salty aquatic notes, neroli and orris bring a complexity to the fragrance. The salty notes are subtle, but at the bottom, I thought there was a mélange of woods. Actually, what I think I smelled is one of my favorite additions: woody orris root. This fragrance has a sensual side that I think
makes a nice “date night” choice. The fragrance radiates confidence, along with a hint of romance.
Perhaps the most ladylike and lovely of the limited edition trio is the White Musk Sun Glow, with notes of lemon, peony, sandalwood and musk. It’s a perfectly harmonious blend of fruits, florals and woods with just enough musk to make it “adult” and not teen. Created by Domitille Bertier, the light blend sits on the skin like a light breeze. It’s still substantial enough to wear day or evening, thanks to Domitille’s skill in blending a musk base note with lemon and peony. While I personally am not a musk fan, this fragrance is somewhat magical. It will definitely put you in a tranquil mood.
The good news is that these limited editions will be available at The Body Shop as of April 30th, so you don’t have long to wait. And, one of these duos makes great Mother’s Day gift, especially if you’re on a budget. Just pick the fragrance “mood” that you think Mom would like the best. If you are not on a budget, get her all three
sets so she can pick the fragrance that fits her feeling (elegant, energized or romantic) any time! Visit www.thebodyshop.com or your favorite Body Shop Store.
