Hint Water Hits the Spot!

July 31, 2010 By: Alison Blackman AdviceSisters

a bottle of watermelon hint water

Can you believe it’s the end of July already? Well, hot weather doesn’t last forever, but while it is sizzling outside, the last thing you need is to be dehydrated. While the sun’s rays beating down can cause skin damage, dehydration is just as dangerous!

Early in July, HINT hit the streets of New York to distribute samples of naturally-flavored water with no sugar, artificial sweeteners, or calories, to editors. I wasn’t in the delivery area, but I did manage to snag a few bottles, anyway. I’m glad I did, because Hint hits the spot–especially on a hot day, waiting for that bus or subway, or after a workout.

There are 10 flavors in all: blackberry, strawberry kiwi, watermelon, mango-grapefruit, pomegranate-tangerine, honeydew hibiscus, raspberry lime, lime, cucumber and pear. They all sound so delicious. But what I really like about Hint Water is that unlike a lot of the so-called flavored water drinks, this one is unsweetened. You taste the flavor (a hint of it–and the blackberry is divine), but you don’t get all that cloying, sugar sweetness. It is, after all just purified water and natural flavors. It is not a kiddy drink.

FACT: How Much Water Do You Really Need to Drink Anyway, In A Day?

I have always heard that you should drink an average of 8 glasses of water a day, but if you’ve got a weak bladder, you don’t really like water, or you just can’t be bothered, you might want to read the information below and adjust, accordingly:

According to an article from the Mayo Clinic, in general, doctors recommend 8 or 9 cups of fluid (that includes water), a day. You can lose close to an additional liter (about 4 cups) of water a day just by breathing and ordinary elimination activities. But, of course, if it’s hot and you’re sweating, or you have gastrointestinal distress (um…diarrhea), you’re in the desert or another dry climate, or you’ve been exercising hard, or have had a fever, you’ll need to replace even more lost fluids from your body.

The Institute of Medicine suggests that guys should consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages (including water) a day, and women should consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day. You can do the “pee test” to determine if you are getting enough water by checking the color of your urine. If it’s colorless or just slightly tinted, your fluid intake is probably fine. Speaking of urine, too much water might won’t harm you, but it might mean you’re spending your days looking for lavatories all over town! Just drink the amount in the guidelines, or a little more if you are feeling thirsty.

If you are not terribly excited about that much “tap,” Hint Water may help you hydrate more. It is fun and tasty. Of course, you have to pay for Hint, and tap water is free. Online, a case of 24 bottles of Hint Water is $44.00 *there is free ground shipping in the USA. But it is also a great replacement for soda and other sweet drinks, and if you can kick the sugary soft drink habit with Hint, then it’s priceless!

Excited about Hint? Here’s a hint, too: Get more information about Hint Water and learn where you can get it locally on the Hint Water Web Site
