With the holidays comes endless shopping, endless eating and entertaining and unfortunately endless spending along with it. If you’ve already spent your budgeted Christmas allowance on gifts and groceries, here’s how to deck out your dining room for the holidays on a budget.
If you’re on a budget then you can’t afford to go out and buy all new matching Christmas tableware for your guests to admire. If you’re going to be entertaining over the holidays, especially if you’ll be serving up Christmas breakfast, lunch or dinner, then you’re going to want to be prepared. You can create a beautiful table by using mismatched used tableware bought for cheap. Opt for all white plates and bowls and clear glasses and it’ll look like a rustic and chic Christmas tablescape.
Dare to be different
Christmas decorations sell for a premium in the lead up to Christmas. To combat this, dare to be different and deck out your dining room in non-traditional Christmas colors and decorations. Instead of opting for red, white and green everything, change things up and go with navy blue or pastel pinks. Decorate your tree and centerpiece in the same theme and everything will look magnificent while still giving off plenty of festive cheer.
One of the easiest ways to create a beautiful dining table setting for cheap is to decorate with nature rather than buying new décor. Casually place pinecones, pine leaves and acorns along with a jute or natural linen table runner to create a beautiful table. Add different leaves and small branches to add a little more natural color to your table. It will also smell magnificent!
Let there be light
Make sure to add lighting to your table. Add candles in elegant crystal candlesticks bought used online. Or simply place candlesticks or tealight candles in some old mason jars for a rustic but brilliantly chic style. Add a line of Christmas or fairy lights to your table runner, strewn between branches and pinecones to warm everything up. Choose flasing colored Christmas lights for an injection of Christmas colors or instead opt for warm white fairy lights to add a little more ambiance and sophistication.
Create your own place cards
Add a touch of whimsy as well as keeping everything and everyone organized by creating your own place cards. Not only does this help friends and families where not everyone always gets along, but it’s also a super cute way to dress up your table. Practice your calligraphy writing and create your own place cards with thick card stock and a calligraphy pen.
Turn napkins into Christmas trees
Add a little more festive flair by folding napkins into Christmas trees. You can use cloth napkins if you have them or even just the paper kind from the grocery store. Opt for green or red napkins unless you have a white snow theme for your tablescape design. Children and adults alike will love this cute Christmassy touch to your decorating.
