If you have a Summer home or weekend retreat, you know that Summer is the time when all your friends and relatives want to either stop by for a visit, or stay for the weekend. That means entertaining and creating meals. For most, that means time spent with the pots and pans, by the stove or grill. And it is also the time of year when you’ll want to be doing most of your cooking on the stove top and not the oven, to keep things cooler, at home.

You may wonder why I’m posting this now, when the contest is just about to end, but the Advice Sisters doesn’t promote contests or give-aways for just anybody. I just received the set that Farberware is giving away, and I wanted to road test both the skillet, and the 10-piece set of Farberware Millennium Nonstick Stainless Steel Cookware. I wouldn’t be writing about this or recommending it, if I didn’t try it and like it.
The Farberware Millennium Stainless Steel Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set ($149.99 retail value) includes the most popular pieces a cook needs: 1 Qt. Covered Nonstick Saucepan, 2 Qt. Covered Nonstick Saucepan, 8 Qt. Covered Nonstick Stockpot, 8″ Nonstick Skillet, 10″ Nonstick Skillet, and a 3 Qt. Covered Nonstick Saute. There are covers to match.
These pans are beautiful to look at, made from solid stainless steel with a beautiful mirror-finish exterior, and clear covers with silver accents and sturdy silver handles. With all that silvery shine, they are like the “Harley Davidson” of cook wear!
The first thing you’ll notice is that these are not flimsy or lightweight. They are sturdy, and weighty. They’ll last you for years, if you take care of them. Each piece in the collection features a stainless steel base that fully covers a thick aluminum core, This allows the pans to heat up quickly and evenly. My test of a full pan of water in the smallest saucepan took literally just a couple of minutes. But my personal favorite part of these pots and pants is that they have a DuPont Teflon® Professional with Metal Guard nonstick surface that is not just long-lasting, it is metal utensil safe. This means you can use a metal spatula to flip an omelet, or a metal spoon to stir a pot, and not worry that you are going to wreck the non-stick surface with scratches. For many, metal utensils are essential for good cooking, and pliable, soft, synthetics, just don’t cut it.
The cookware is suitable for all stove tops, including induction, and I also tried one of the the saucepans on the side burner of my outdoor grill. Cleanup was a breeze! And, amazingly, this cookware is oven safe to 500° F You can cook someting and keep it warm in the over, or simply cook it in the oven, and you don’t have to worry –the pans can take it! The pieces also have glass lids that let you see what you’re cooking, and when it’s ready to be stirred, flipped, or it’s done. The handles are secure, riveted, stainless steel.
Whether you win one of the three Farberware Millennium Stainless Steel 12-inch Nonstick Skillets (bonus prize with a retail value of $39.99) or not, this is a must-have in any cook’s collection. I always do what I call the “egg test” when I get a new frying/saute pan. I cook a scrambled egg and also a fried egg, in a modest amount of olive oil. If you’ve done this with a pan that doesn’t have a non-stick surface, or one with a sub-standard non-stick surface, you know what a mess cleanup can be. Thanks to the aluminum core, both egg tests showed quick heating, even cooking results, and easy cleanup. A lot of skillets are small, but this 12 inch beauty is big enough for a bunch of pancakes, or a dozen sausages, or even a stir fry. All I had to do, even though I was using fairly high heat, was wipe down the pan with a wet cloth.
