I Fell in Love — With a Lipcolor!

January 2, 2013 By: Alison Blackman

This Summer I fell in love…with a lip product!  Yes, it is true. It really was love at first sight of the colorful, chubby, swivel up lip colors in the shape of large crayons, called:  Chubbby Stick Intense, Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm by Clinique ($16.00).  At least one of these Clinique Lip Colour Balms has been in my purse since then, and I hope we never will part!

Maybe I’m being overly dramatic, but it isn’t often that I find a product I like so much that I might forsake all others for it. But the Chubby Stuck Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Colour Balms are not just beautifying, they’re good for your lips. And now that the Winter is really here, our lips need extra TLC.  This one has is a hybrid between a lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm and lip pencil.has a lip-loving, containing a very silky, soft, pampering and nourishing blend of butters, oils, and antioxidants that keep lips hydrated, protected, and (hopefully) more youthful. There’s emollient shea butter, mango seed butter, and jojoba seed oil to deal with dryness, and since Clinique is known for products that are good for sensitive skin, these are also  100% fragrance free and allergy tested. Did you know that they allergy test every product a dozen times on 600 people, and of even one of the 7,200 applications creates an allergic reaction, they start formulating it all over again? That’s amazing!

So now you know about the moisturizing benefits, but there’s a lot more!  The colorful Clinique Lip Colour Balms look like chubby crayons but unlike a traditional crayon, they product twists up from the bottom (and you you can even twist it back down again, if you wish) so you always have the right amount, they won’t break, and you’ll never have to sharpen it. The feel is very silky and pampering, but the colors don’t run and fade easily…another bonus.

The Summer collection of colors were sheer, to add just a little bit of  tint and plenty of moisturizing shine, but for Winter eight new colors add intensity, to give pale winter complexions a boost, and to follow the trend for old color. Most of the color tones are in the neutral range, so everyone can wear them. And, while the colors are have saturated pigments, they so moist and universally flattering that you look pretty, not stage-y The eight new shades are primarily in the pink to berry and red range, but there is one natural nude called “Curviest Caramel.” It too, is intense enough (and deep enough in tone with a dollop of pink) so your lips aren’t blanked out with beige. That trend doesn’t even look nice on 14 year old runway models. The other colors include: Chunkiest a rusty red, Roomiest Rose, a deep rose, Intense Hibiscus is a medium deep peach, but again, it’s a neutral, so cooler complexions can wear it nicely. Broadest berry (deep, but still flattering to palefaces). The three deepest shades offer drama for those who just want a really bold and dark lip:  Grandest Grape is a dark berried purple for those who love that look and most flattering for deeper complexions, Plushiest Punch is a deep bright hot pink to flatter cool skin tones the best, and Mightiest Maraschino is a deep but neutral cherry red that works on most everyone. If you are generally red-averse, Mightiest Maraschino is going to be a revelation, adding real red, but making it somehow look right even if you’re wearing jeans and a tee.

Perhaps now you can see why I have a love affair with these chubby sticks of Clinique beauty goodness!  There are plenty of Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms, but they’re nothing like these.  Your only issue may be your budget, because you will want more than one.
