Chanukah and Christmas are is over. Now it’s time to do some power-shopping for yourself. Eye-catching colors from mild to wild, are what caught my eye at the Indie Beauty Expo as I passed by the IBY Inspired by You Beauty table.
This California-centric brand has some of the most colorful palettes I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen a lot of makeup in my day). For holiday 2019 I can’t contain my excitement about this makeup line. These make the perfect gifts for the makeup-obsessed. They’ll wow anyone who wants to go with the trends and make big fashion statements.
Colors Galore!
First, it’s affordable. IBY has lots of eye shadow palettes. They big, and yet most are just $20 and $25. The two-level eyes and Face Carry On palette is a little more at $38.
However, what really made me do a double-take were the colors.
Enlighten Palette:
“Enlighten,” for example, features a whopping 20 generously sized pans of mostly pastel and soft matte and shimmer shades. But there are a few These are highly pigmented and build-able. ]
]They are super-shimmers (Third Eye, Golden Light and Wealth). Dragon Fruit is a deep rich red you could use as a lip tint. Whether you choose a light or pastel shade, or one of the glitters or deeper ones, all are infused with rosehip seed oil to treat pamper those eyelids!
Ocean Awakening:
The ocean-inspired Ocean Awakening has 20 beautiful colors as well, with about half of them inspired by the sea. But the other half are earthier tones of land.
“Black Sand” is a glittery ink black. Other standouts include “Starfish “(coral) and “Suntan” (deep warm red).
My favorite shadows are the shimmery green” Laguna” and the intense sea blue “Tidepool.” Truthfully, all of the colors bring our my inner mermaid.
These are just sea-riffic!
Super Bloom:
This super palette is “Super Bloom.” IBY suggests that the mostly pink and rose colors are inspired by California wildflowers.
When I look at the palette with its really bright colors I think it’s fabulous for the trendy. Eight of the 20 shades are red, coral, crimson and pin.
However, for some, the colors might not work on eyes, but they would work on cheeks and lips (e/g. the bright red “Antelope Valley” third down on the far right of the palette. “Ca Poppy”(shimmery rust) and “Blossom (deep rose) would make great blushes as well as on the lips.
For those who don’t always want to go with the bold and trendy, there are eight more earth-toned and neutral shades. Two intense but very wear-able standouts are
Lake Elsinore” (deep maroon shimmer) and Bluebell (navy blue shimmer).
Carry On Palette (Eyes & Face):
I’m a big fan of face in a case kits. If they are portable all you need is one for eyes and face/blush and your favorite foundation.
The Carry On Face Palette is square, not much larger than a big coaster. It’s encased in soft gold faux leather. Inside, there’s an interior mirror, and on the first level, 9 really large pans of eye shadow. As with the other IBY palettes I tested, this one has some really trend colors and some that are more classic. ( to 5 is a glittery black, B.O.A.T.is a warm deep red, and Caffeinate & Conquer is a very rusted warm maroon-red. But the other colors are neutral and earthy.
Flip the palette over and there’s another large square interior mirror. Beneath that are four large squares of shadow and highlight. “Globe-Trotting” is a matte neutral pink, “1st Class” is a brighter, shimmery pink. “Private Jet” is a shimmery coppery highlight. “OMW” is a slightly shimmery gold.
The Bottom Line:
IBY Inspired by You Cosmetics is a fun and fantastic (cruelty-free) makeup company with tons of on-trend items. The palettes are top-notch. They are a true find.
We didn’t review any of the other cosmetics but the brush sets, the lip products and the brow cosmetics look excellent.
