review of the JAM Xterior Plus Rugged Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

In today’s market offering a wide variety of Bluetooth speakers, it’s challenging to distinguish a particular product but with the JAM Xterior Plus Rugged Wireless Audio Bluetooth Speaker, JAM Audio has managed to do this. The take-it-everywhere speaker is designed with waterproof properties, a rugged body, and for use outdoors.

Some speakers are meant to provide you with concert hall sound, but if your mischievous little cousin took the speakers and threw them in the pool just for fun, that would be the end of your sound system! The JAM Xterior Plus Rugged Wireless Bluetooth Speaker gives you great sound wherever you want to take it, but it actually floats and is completely waterproof.

Bluetooth, Re-chargeable:

The JAM Xterior Plus Rugged Wireless Speaker, as you might have already guessed, is designed for fun and delivers big sound, although it’ highly portable. At 7.25” x 3.25” x 3.25 standing on its end, it is just about the size of a large beer can.

The BLUETOOTH® connects easily and wirelessly with any Bluetooth device in a 30-foot range and the fully rechargeable unit will play up to 8 hours on a single charge.

The main feature of this rugged speaker is the end cap (the housing the USB charging port and phone plug) which can be completely closed up, making the unit waterproof.

On the opposite end is a deployable loop so it can be hung from a carabiner or a rope or someone’s belt.

Big Sound From A Portable Speaker:

All this is great, but it’s the sound you purchase a speaker for. In our tests, the JAM Xterior Plus Rugged Wireless Speaker was quite pleasant (and loud) for such a small specialty speaker.

Since it is small, it doesn’t really reproduce a very deep base or create a true stereo image, but for having fun outdoors or at a party or for the beach or just about anywhere else, it’s a fabulous idea.

You won’t have to worry that someone is going to knock it around, or worse, get the idea that it would be fun to dunk it in water (but you can)! It has also become a favorite of personal trainers we know who use it for outdoor “boot camp” activities.

Jam Xterior speaker: The exterior is a rugged metal stamped in a pattern that makes it easy to grip and helps prevent damage to the outer casing should it be rolled around. Go ahead, perch it in a tree and it’s still worry-free!

The controls would be familiar to anyone who owns a JAM speaker of most any other Bluetooth speaker. There’s a power charging light, a Bluetooth indicator light, volume Up/Down button, a next track button and a power ON/OFF button. These are incorporated into a rubberized strip with the appropriate raised symbols.

The Mounting Socket Lets You Ride With Sound:

Perhaps the most unique feature is a standard mounting socket on a rubberized strip on the other side of the unit from the controls (the bottom). You can also mount it to your bike with the Xterior Plus’s screw mount, or put it on a tripod for a party.

The Jam Xterior mounting socket can be used with any number of accessories (pick something up at a photography store to mount it. such as a tripod to put the sound up high), or you can clamp to a cycle of any kind.

The Bottom Line – Fun Speaker Well Worth the Price:

We think given the size, the sound quality and the additional benefits of this speaker, it’s worth a whole lot more than the retail price of $79.00. Send one to college with your kids, bring one on your next camping trip or family outing, use it at the pool party, or just keep it on your desk for the next TGIF office get together!
