Seeking Straight Hair:
Before flat irons were common some people with did something pretty dangerous: fighting frizzy hair by flattening it with a clothes iron. Flat irons and early hair straightening treatments became available, but often with mixed results. Recently, I tried an Express Blowout by Keratin Complex that blows everything else out of the water.
Early Keratin Treatments:
There have been other keratin treatments, and some were effective but used chemicals that could be harmful to both client and stylist. And, artificially straightened hair (back then) didn’t have the ability to curl or wave, so it hung flat and limp. I have long hair and it frizzes if someone cries. Nothing I’ve ever tried really keeps frizz from returning. I was really excited to try a new type of Keratin treatment that doesn’t take long (about an hour) and that you can even do the day you color your hair.
I visited the Oscar Blandi Salon in Manhattan to try this keratin treatment and here’s how it went:

My treatment at the Oscar Blandi Salon began with a root touch up by colorist Nicole Hunter. After the color, I was treated to two shampoos (one is a clarifying the other is hydrating).
Then it was immediately time for the Express Blowout. To be honest, I was worried that the treatment might change the color, or worse, my sensitive scalp would itch, but nothing happened.
Stylist Stephanie Scuoppo at Oscar Blandi did the keratin treatment (Express Blowout). It’s one bottle (see photo above) and she applied it quickly and this treatment stays on your hair and isn’t rinsed out.
Then, she had to dry my long thick hair. Afterward, she meticulously flat ironed it. This took a little over an hour, but the result was truly amazing.

After the treatment, my hair was soft and shiny, but it didn’t feel heavy or coated. My highlights glimmered.

I used these at home, and even without a flat iron my hair still looked pretty sleek. However, if I didn’t use the products, my hair was slightly frizzy (nothing like before the treatment).
A short while later I took a trip to Florida and to a cruise to Cuba. As you can imagine, it’s hot and humid. Amazingly, my hair stayed sleek and soft and not the least bit frizzy even without a flat iron. Amazing!
It’s been about a month and a half since I had the Express Blowout, which is supposed to last about six weeks, but it’s still going strong. I love this treatment! When it wears off I’ll do it again, for sure.
