It was hair stylist Odile Gilbert who once said to me, backstage at a Carmen Marc Valvo runway show during fashion week, that when a woman is attempting a complicated hair style such as a special updo, she is better off leaving it in the hands of a stylist, and a salon. And that might be correct, but most of the time, with good products, a woman can DIY with great results. Fortunatley, Kérastase Paris continues to add cutting add products in their first-ever styling range that the brand launched in 2013.
Recently, Kérastase expanded the styling products range with some new products in a collection called: “Bombshell Luxe,” three new products for maximum creativity with long-lasting hold: Baume Double Je, Laque Noire, and V.I.P. Formulated with a new generation of micronized polymers discovered by L’Oreal Advanced Research, each product help you to transform your hairs’ texture and shape, but still allow you to move it around, and keep it touch-able (because no one wants to reach out an touch a handful of “straw”). The products also won’t damage the hair fiber.
Here is a rundown on what you can expect from the trio of hair treats that give you “bombshell hair” (plus one more truly remarkable product to help you make any hair style, better)!
V.I.P. from Kérastase (200 ML $37.00, 75 ML $20.00) may be the “secret weapon” you use constantly when you’re attempting holiday hair looks, because this weightless ‘backcomb effect spray’ gives hair texture, volume, and long-lasting hold. If you are doing an updo or anything more complicated than a few curls, you need volume and control, something for pins to grip as well. This product will give you a high level of “texture” plus long lasting hold and a ” Backcomb Effect” without the damage. If you want “big hair” this is a way to get it, thanks to what Kerestase calls their “Patented Horizontal Diffusion.” You just need to know how to use it: shake well and apply to dry or pre-dried hair. Re-work the hair with fingers to instantly add volume and style. It actually smells very light and pleasant, too.
Baume Double Je from Kérastase ($37.00 2.5 fl. oz.) is an extra workable defining balm, used for both construction and finish, is a half paste/half cream formula that offers medium hold and adjustable resistance. This hybrid balm structures and texturizes the hair for long-lasting hold thanks to its endlessly re-sculptable formula. It will help you shape and re-shape hairstyles but it isn’t “stiff.”
—Long-lasting Medium Hold
—Great for Bobs/Pixies
To Use: on dry or damp hair, rub a small amount (about the size of a quarter) of balm between the hands and then apply it either section by section or throughout the hair.
Once you have a style you like, you’ve got to hold it...and the new Laque Noire from Kérastase (75 ML $20.00; 300 ML $37.00) is the highest-hold hairspray in Kérastase’s portfolio. It is a micro-diffusion spray with a water-free formula that gives extra-strong hold and acts as an anti-humidity shield. It instantly and intensely sets the style for either controlled volume or extreme structuring. Unlike a lot of other hairsprays, this one not only doesn’t dull shine, it adds it, while keep hair soft to the touch. It dries quickly without too much odor, and it lasts (Kerestase says up to 48 hours but I didn’t test it that long). With the holidays fast approaching, is is a little splurge that you might find is a priceless investment.
Hair get a bit greasy or frizzy? Prepare to be amazed! These Kérastase Anti-Frizz Sheets are blotting papers for your hair. Yes, you’ve seen similar ones for face, but this one is a groundbreaking little product that is new and news! The portable, purple package of disposable and water-free, Carré Lissant ($28.00/5o sheets) fights frizz and flyaways, any time and any place. The sheets have a light wax complex that is non-greasy, but when you rub it (gently, please) on your hair, it adds shine and tames the frizz while controlling status and blocking humidity. It also smells fabulous, a mix of grapefruit., rose petals, pear and lychee plus a base of patchouli, amber and white musk. If you’ve been in an airplane, a club or any place where the air is “nasty” you can instantly refresh your hair with one of the sheets, too.
