Those who love Kiehls cannot live without their products. Everyone has a favorite, whether it’s for the face, for the body, something specifically for men, or for a particular skin issue. In this feature there are some favorites, and some new items that we know will become favorites. All help kick some common skin issues to the curb.
A Kiehls products that is universally loved is their Creme de Corps in all of its forms. The “big kahuna” of these is the big tub of whipped body butter that brings dry, itchy skin back to life so quickly you can’t help but think: “wow! where has this been all of my life?” You can get Creme de Corps in different varieties, but the Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter ($38.00 for the 8 oz jar or $48.00 for the 12 oz jar) is a staple because it works so quickly and so well. This isn’t a “lightweight” even though the whipped formula is light and fluffy. It’s full of super-hydrating, soothing ingredients.
There is emollient shea butter and squalene that are known to hydrate and restore life to dry skin. Soy Milk and Honey to help nourish, refine and protect. Beta Carotene is an antioxidant that protects and softens, jojoba Oil helps keep water in the skin and restore the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Soy milk and honey.
All of this sounds great, but if a product isn’t pleasant to use, it isn’t going to be of any use. Keihls Creme de Corps Soy Mild & Honey Whipped Body Butter sounds so good you’d want to eat it, and when you open the top of the plastic tub and peer inside the soft, gourmand scent of this whipped, honey colored body butter may blow you away before you even put it on your skin. Better than the scent is the texture which is light as a feather, but when you smooth in on your skin, it immediately absorbs, leaving a silkier, smoother, hydrated, pampered feeling that lasts for hours and hours and hours (*use it on slightly damp skin right after bath or shower and it’s even better). It’s amazing. It’s my personal must-have favorite from Kiehls
FYI: there are also no parabens, glycols or silicones in the product. This is such a decadent product and it’s just so good, get the BIG size — you’ll use a lot of it! If your face feels dry, Kiels can help you kick dry skin there, too with something that is kind of nifty: the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream ($26.50 for the 1.7 oz jar, and $46.50 for the 4.2 fl. oz. jar). This product looks simple in a plain white jar, but it’s powerful, helping to retain moisture in your skin and help absorb it from the air, which means it actually replenishes moisture throughout the day. If that sounds impressive, consider that this product was used by a team of the “Greenland First Ascent” expedition. The six explorers completed the first-ever ascent of Greenland’s ice covered peaks on May 30th 2005. if you’re climbing dangerous terrain, you don’t have a lot of time to think about moisturizing your face so although I can’t verify the 24-hour moisturization, I’ll be these guys, certainly can! How cool is this?!
The ingredients include one of Kiehls signatures, squalene (for softness). It also has Antarcticine, sourced from Antarctica (makes sense). This is a glycoprotein that without tech-speak, helps hydrate skin and provides it with a noticeably smoother appearance while shielding skin from the damaging effects of free-radicals. It also helps to protect skin from extremely cold temperatures. Another unique ingredients is from the Imperata Cylindrica plant that thrives in dry, excessively saline environments and is native to many of Earth’s deserts, but is especially prolific in the Australian Outback.
In this exceptional face cream from Kiehls, Imperata Cylindrica helps skin to store and retain moisture efficiently even when the conditions are dry. Kiehls makes other facial moisturizers, and this one is certainly a rich and emollient one which, at least in some cases, might not be the best choice for super oily skin types, but for most the lack of an annoying scent, the emollient and protective cream, and the fact that Kiehls has tested it on some of the hardiest people in the harshest conditions you can find, is a big thumbs up! Precision Lifting & Pore-Tightening Concentrate
I mentioned at the beginning of this piece that one of the things that makes Kiehls so loved by so many, is that they create unique products that address specific skincare issues. A brand new products from Kiehls is their Precision Lifting Pore Tightening Concentrate ($64.00 1.7 fl. oz. bottle) which Kiehl’s says helps to to visibly lift skin, help reshape facial contours and tighten the appearance of enlarged pores. I didn’t realize that increased visibility of pores is a key sign of aging (oh well, just one more thing to worry about)! But Kiehls has a new weapon against the signs of aging that helps restore elasticity (another sign of aging) and also helps to reduce the size of those pores. I am not going to go into a lot of tech speak, but the two powerhouses that help deal with this issue are Nutritional micro-filled yeast Extract and Geranium Essential Oil. The first has antioxidant and cell renewal properties that help improve the smoothness and texture of skin, and in the Kiehl’s formula it is in an ultra-purified form that lifts and tighten pores. The geranium oil is also an antioxidant and its claim to fame is that it is helpful is a dizzying array of ways from ulcers to age spots, to aromatherapy. And yes it smells nice (light and floral), but it also has been used to help reduce winkles and improve skin tone. Kiehls uses a steam distillation process on their geranium oil to ensure that they get maximum benefits from it.
Like anything else that helps tackle a specific skincare issue, you need to be realistic and patient. The clinically listed consumer results from Kiehls shows improvement anywhere from two weeks to eight weeks of continued use. Your skin is not like anyone else’s and your experience and results will vary, but if you want to reduce pore size and firm your skin with one product, this one might be the one you’ve been waiting for. You don’t need a lot of product, so one bottle lasts for a while — just be patient and use it regularly if you hope to see the kind of impressive results that Kiehls lists on their website.
Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado ($28.50) is one of those things that if you begin to use it and you love it, you may never want to be without it again. It’s a super-emollient moisturizer with avocado oil that makes your eye area feel amazingly soft and pampered, but the cream stays where you dab it, and won’t migrate into your eyes. This is good news for those of us who have sensitive skin and eyes. Yes, it’s also Ophthamologist- and Dermatologist-tested.
This little powerhouse of pampering has not just moisturizing avocado oil (which by the way, I’m told is the most moisturizing of any fruit oil and a great natural source of Amino Acid proteins, Vitamins A, D, E, and potassium.), but it also has beta-carotene, and shay butter. The only thing I don’t love about it is that you have to stick your fingers into the jar (and the eye area is a place where you certainly don’t want to dab on anything that might be remotely contaminated over time)…I do prefer tubes and airless pumps. However, I’ll forgive anything for a great eye cream, and this one, delivers.
