Kiehls New Aromatic Blends Bath & Body Trios Take You Around the World

Can you really take a trip around the world with beauty products? If you don’t take it too literally, you can have an olfactory tour of the globe, thanks to Aromatic Blends,  four new collections of scented bath & body products by one of the most beloved brands around: Kiehls. On shelves now in all stores, nationwide, these brand-new collections of skin-softening Body Cleanser, Skin-Softening Body Lotion, and Spray bottles of Aromatic Mist, are offered in four different scents: Orange Flower & Lychee, Vanilla & Cedarwood, Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit and Fig Leaf & Sage. All were sustainably sourced from around the globe.

The packaging is typically Kiehls: simple, tall, plastic bottles with brushes silver and white vlip-top caps, that allow the clear or pearly liquid to show. The Aromatic Mist is in a lovely, old-fashioned, apothecary-style glass bottle that is unadorned, save for embossing, and a brushed, silver cap (I love this look)!

Since 1851 when Kiehls first opened, fragrance has been a part of the inventory, including such tantalizing but old-fashioned notions as: Money Drawing Oil, Attraction Oil and Purity Oil. At one time in Kiehl’s history, they offered more than 22 hand-blended essences (including the first commercially-sold, musk). But Aromatic Blends is a modern direction for Kiehls, featuring unisex packaging and scents in bath and body products. These unique fragrances are not just appealing to men as well as women, but they focus in on a few ingredients ( fewer ingredients than traditional fragrances) so that you get a true sense of the place and the emotions these places, evoke.

These are interesting, sophisticated, and yet, very user friendly.  They are soft on the nose, but stay on your skin for a long while. If you don’t like to layer (or can’t afford to) no worries–even one of these products will scent your skin nicely. The Skin Softening  Body Lotion was inspired by the hydration of Kiehl’s iconic Creme de Corps, This body lotion silkens in an instant, but lasts up to 24 hours.  Key ingredients include Squalene and Vitamin E, but no silicones. You won’t get any greasy feel–just soft, pampering softness.

The Skin-Softening Body Cleanser has Vitamin E and a skin-pampering botanical oil blend. But the golden cleanser lathers nicely, and washes off easily, leaving skin feeling fresh, hydrated, and scented.

The Aromatic Mists are crafted with fewer ingredients than traditional fragrances, so the pure notes shine through, naturally.

From Morocco comes Orange Flower & Lychee.  The orange scent was formulated from not just one, but three different parts of the Bitter Orange tree, so it doesn’t smell like your run of the mill orange fragrance. According to my sources at Kiehls, this Bitter Orange tree also produces a much more potent aroma.  The orange scent is more fresh and juicy, than tart, and the lychee has a fruity-floral fragrance. Together, they make a soft, citrus with a hint of floral that even men will love.

Aromatic, but fresh and herbal, is the unique, Fig Leaf & Sage (sourced from the South of France).  Sage can be a very strong herbal scent, but this one is very green, and uplifting, with bergamot, citron and thyme. The fig essence used in this trio is distinctive, from the South of Fragrance, where this distinctive fig essence renowned for its uniquely fresh green, crisp aroma, can be found.   Kiehls actually engaged a perfumer who had spent his childhood in Provence, to get the scent, just right!

Take your senses on a trip to Japan with the slightly tart and softly floral, Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit. This Nashi-centric fragrance. Pink grapefruit can be tart or sweet, but paired  the delicate flower of  (Nashi Flower) pear trees that bloom in many of Kyoto’s traditional Japanese gardens, you get a burst of tart, with the calming nature of this delicate flower (Nashi flower have eight petals and bloom before the tree develops leaves, as do cherry blossoms).

The most “date night” of the scents (by that I mean sensual), is the Vanilla & Cedarwood Aromatic Blends collection. You can almost “drink” in the fragrance. First you get a hit of creamy vanilla, but as your body warms the scent, you smell the smoky cedarwood coming through, making this pleasing to men as well as the ladies. According to my sources at Kiehls, the scent is created from Ugandan Vanilla and Cedarwood, with a hint of iris and some rich amber.  The creamy vanilla is from the vanilla orchid grown on small, sustainable farms in Uganda.  In one word: yummy!

If natural and sustainable ingredients are important to you, note that these are not just nice products to use,  but also that Kiehls is known for using only fine, natural ingredients from around the world. The orange flower, pink grapefruit and sage were extracted with steamed water to capture essential oils directly after harvesting (that’s when the aromas are strongest). The Ugandan Vanilla and cedarwood were harvested from sustainable farms that provide ongoing local community support. Lychee, nashi blossom and fig leaf were created using aromatic reproduction (a way to get the aromas without destroying the plants) because these are fragile.  While the scents are user-friendly and easy to enjoy, they’re not ordinary!  Orange Flower & Lychee was produced by the famed perfume house of Givaudan; Vanilla & Cedarwood and Fig Leaf & Sage were created by the expert perfumers at Firmenich, and Nashi Blossom & Pink Grapefruit was created by perfumers at Mane.
