KIERIN NYC’s “genderless fragrances invite people “to be inspired, not defined or confined, by fragrance.”
There are 4 fragrances: Sunday Brunch, Nitro Noir, Santal Sky and 10 am Flirt.
Each bottle features “art” in the shape of a bright graphic design on a paper label affixed onto a pristine white bottle that looks like it could have been street art plastered on a wall somewhere.
If minimalism is your thing, however, turn the bottle around and find the small square, “KNYC” logo in black on two otherwise unadorned sides.
New York Centric:
Each of the fragrances has a story that you can “play” computer-generated female voice (in English or French) on the KIERIN NYC website.
Nice to know that these fragrances are vegan and cruelty-free, no toxins and free of skin allergens, parabens, and phthalates. Of course, the products are made from sustainable materials.
Maybe, but not just for the hipper, younger (but still savvy) fragrance consumer. These scents are the kind you won’t find them on every person as you might with a department store brand,
Truly, KIERIN NYC has arms open to everyone regardless of age or gender. It’s billed as the first and only niche-fragrance to express a modern, urban lifestyle celebrating real New York City stories. The collection dedicated to gender-all, inclusive, clean, conscious, cruelty-free, vegan perfumes/
Four Fragrances (Notes):
The perfumer is Mathieu Nardin of Robertet. In testing, I found the four fragrances to be modern, but in basic categories of citrus, spicy, fresh and woody. on the website, you’ll find fragrance notes to know more than this basic info.
All of the fragrances sounded very appealing. I tested bottles of two fragrances with very different vibes: Sunday Brunch and Santal Sky and samples of Nitro Noir and 10 a.m. Flirt:
In NYC Sunday Brunch is a must-do activity. The Sunday Brunch fragrance is labeled as vibrant citrus no doubt in homage to the traditional brunch drink of the mimosa, make with champagne or sparkling wine and orange juice.
Interestingly, in this fragrance there’s no orange, but there is a lot of Bergamot. Tea notes peek through on dry-down. The Key Ingredients: Italian Bergamot – Lemon – Earl Grey Tea – Jasmine.
The fragrance story is about woody and earthy and serenity in the City. However, the notes let me know it would be a spicy woodsy fragrance and it didn’t disappoint me.
I smelled sandalwood (the Santal) immediately and spice (cardamom, saffron, and vetiver).
While I don’t believe in categorizing a fragrance by gender any more than KIERIN NYC does, Santal Sky has a very pleasing, intoxicating, masculine vibe.
Spicy woodsy scents are a personal favorite of mine even if they were supposedly directed to men. This is one I’d buy for my husband, and borrow right back from him.
10 a.m. Flirt:
A decidedly daytime fragrance, this one screams “green!” Floral and woody notes combine to make a fragrance that feels special and light but not insignificant.
It reminds me of the scent of moist moss in the woods or freshly cut grass mixed with wildflowers. The key Ingredients listed are Gardenia, Fig, Cashmere Wood and Sandalwood
If you’re seeking a sexy fragrance that is a woman’s date night scent, I’d suggest Nitro Noir.
It’s woodsy and earthy but is a floral/chypre that is softer where Patchouli reigns supreme, followed by other key notes of Italian Bergamot , Pink Berries and Orris.
I really love this fragrance for its soft sensuality.
The Bottom Line:
KEIRIN NYC is a newcomer to the fragrance arena, but it is turning heads (and noses) for a city-chic vibe that offers scents that make you stand out as the individual you want to be.
You don’t have to be a New Yorker to want and LOVE these fragrances. If you’re not sure which one you want (I loved them all) you can get a discovery set with little vials of all four ($18)
Each 1.7 oz. spray bottle is $78 which I think is really a bargain for these quality fragrances. Note too, the Eau de Parfum fragrances have a 20% fragrance concentrations so your bottle will last…a while!
