The Advice Sisters know you love luxurious, high performance makeup, beautifully presented. But there is one company that does “luxe” better than anyone else. So the gift we’re suggesting to give yourself (or anyone else), is this fabulous foundation you’ll use every day: Caviar-Rich Foundation and Concealer by LaPrairie $215.00 30 ml / 1.0 oz. Without a doubt, it is the most luxurious, most elegant beauty product we are suggesting this year.
This foundation is new-ish, but when you see it nestled in a signature La Prairie shiny silver box you’ll know it’s holiday perfect. The liquid foundation comes with a matching concealer in the hinged, silvery top. The foundation is a dewy (not shiny) medium opaque to full coverage formula, that slides on creamy and blend-able. The creamy concealer camouflages under-eye darkness and discoloration beautifully, without giving you “raccoon eyes.” Since it matches the foundation color, it looks natural.
Both the concealer and the foundation include La Prairie’s legendary caviar extracts that help to lift and firm. The La Prairie caviar line caviar line has real caviar extract and unique proteins that help to to make skin more toned and firm, and of course, smooth, too. Who wouldn’t love a little firming action with their beautifying foundation. Even better, 6% Octinoxate provides SPF 15 to help a bit with protection against the sun’s damaging rays. There is also a pleasant floral scent (not too strong).
The foundation/concealer duo is presented like a precious jewel, nestled into it’s own silvery metal stand with a little, round mirror in the bottom. On the side there’s a holder for the silvery, metal-handled concealer brush (included).
Like any opaque foundation, the key to success is finding the right color. There are a dozen shades, but choosing just the right one can be tricky if you’ve never seen the foundation in person and especially if you haven’t tried any La Prairie foundations yet.
We tried Warm Beige, Soft Ivory, Warm Linen and Tender Ivory, but you can’t really get more than a hint of what the color and tone is from the names. Both the ivory tones were really light and great for porcelain to very light skin. The Warm Beige was the best for our skin tone, in between neutral and warm, but not a perfect match. The Warm Linen was a great color but the wrong tone.
The point is, you really have to try these products in person (we picked our choices sight unseen). Go to a La Prairie counter and test them! Still, if you find the color is a little off, you can blend it out. Tip: Shake the bottle well before applying the foundation and use a foundation sponge or brush for perfect blending. helpful. We felt one coat was more than sufficient for a daytime look. We also suggested applying any concealer prior to the foundation.
The Bottom Line: The packaging, the product, the scent…simply sensational! It’s pricey, but you will get your money’s worth from the investment in pleasure and in how it looks and preforms. Get the it, and other products in the La Prairie Caviar line on the La Prairie web site and in fine department stores.
