La Prairie Platinum Rare Is Precious Skincare:In the Fall of 2020, La Prairie launched a reformulated version of its signature Platinum Rare skincare range. At close to $1,000 per product (and above) it’s really the highest end of it’s already high end skincare collections. The entire collection consists of six products: the new Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Cream and Eye Cream; an Eye Elixir serum; a Night Elixir and Platinum Rare Cellular Life-Lotion.If you’re going to dip your toes into these super-high-end super luxury skincare waters, here’s what you need to know.
A Platinum Peptide:
The La Prairie Platinum Rare Collection uses colloidal platinum. It’s one of the most precious metals you can find. That’s a clue that these pricey products are exceptional. Advicesisters.com didn’t try the Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Cream ($1525 1.7 oz.) but we did try the new eye products: Platinum Rare Eye Cream and Eye Elixir.
For Your Eyes Only:
The eyes are the window to the soul, and that delicate skin around your eyes needs to be treated well. If your eyes look tired, and the skin feels puffy and dark, you will look older than your actual age. But with La Prairie Platinum Rare even with dark circles and fine lines you might just be able to turn back the clock. These products help your skin to retain moisture, protect against external saboteurs, and boost nutrient absorption.According to La Prairie, regular use of these products will help the delicate skin around your eyes look brighter, less puffy and free of lines, and even, perhaps, luminous. That’s why I’m suggesting these as a super-special gift (note the glitter hearts around my photo below) to give to that super-special someone! The key to all of this skin-loving goodness is La Prairie’s new Platinum Multi-Peptide. Without getting too technical, this peptide is a complex of three different peptides attached to spherical platinum and designed to trigger rejuvenating cellular activities. This new Platinum Multi-Peptide goes beyond mere collagen production — it’s designed to also strengthen the skin barrier, facilitate cellular nutrient exchange and enhance cellular longevity, acting across the skin layers.
Platinum Rare Haute Rejuvenation Eye Elixir & Eye Cream:The Eye Elixir is a super-luxe serum for the eyes ($985/0.5 oz.). It is dispensed from a dropper top and feels amazing on your skin (trust me on this). However this light, dreamy eye serum has an elegant, subtle floral fragrance. You can feel it working to tone your skin and smooth it, immediately (see my eyes in the final photo below). The Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Eye Cream arrived in a round lavender jar contains a dreamy, creamy formula that, to quote La Prairie: “offers cell communication, extra cellular matrix renewal, epidermal cell renewal, improvement in stress response and barrier reinforcement. Eventually it creates a virtuous loop of rejuvenation across all skin layers to help fight signs of aging.”This cream also has the new La Prairie Platinum Multi-Peptide. The make the products work their magic, you have to be patient. As I always advise, you have to get the right products for your skin and skin conditions, use them properly and consistently. It might take a couple of months to see results, but once you do there should be a big improvement. Of course at nearly $2,000 (the Eye Cream is 0.67 oz./ $ 985) you would expect results.
Beauty and Art:There is an experiential aspect as well to Platinum Rare with interesting information on the La Prairie website about meteors and platinum and the malleable nature of time. Nobuhiro Nakanishi and composer Max Richter crafted a collaborative installation that reflects Platinum Rare’s ethos of ‘time suspended.’ Entitled ‘Echo of Time’, the installation features a ‘layer drawing’ by Nakanishi with sequential photographs of the Swiss Alps layered one on top of another.
The Bottom Line:
The samples advicesisters.com received weren’t enough to last 2 months. You don’t need a lot, so the full sized bottles might be all you really need to see real improvement. The photo above shows my left eye after using the products for the first time about 15 minutes later. You can already see a difference.
Technology can do a lot and it’s expensive to produce high tech products. If there’s no limit to what you need to help make your skin look ageless, it’s worth it. The substantial, violet, elegantly sculptured packaging is beautiful.
Even the spatula (for the La Prairie Platinum Rare Cellular Cream) is a weighty one, in silver and gold. Nestled into the shiny silver boxes, these products look like precious jewels.
The light floral scent is elegant, enough to be beautiful but not overwhelming. The products are super-pampering. Although they may not be within the price range of everyone’s skincare routine, if you can afford it, why not? Or, hope someone gifts these to you!
